Hennessy Sports Promote British Boxing Double Header

There are 24 rounds of full British Championship boxing scheduled by Hennessy Sports for May 12th at the York Hall in Bethnal Green. Lenny Daws will meet Nigel Wright at light welterweight following the promotional outfit’s successful purse bid for the fight, whilst friends and teammates Lee Meager and Dave Stewart will face off at lightweight.

Both titles are currently vacant.

Meager-Stewart had been pencilled for April 7th, but has been shifted back to allow Stewart more time to recover from the cut eye he suffered against Jason Nesbitt in February. The result is an old-school double header being covered live by Sky Sports.

“This looks set to be a great night of British boxing,” said Hennessy Sports head Mick Hennessy. “There should be an incredible atmosphere. You have two vacant titles being contested by the most eligible contenders. Many will see the fights as classic 50-50 affairs. In both you have boxers at very similar stages of their career.

“All the fighters are on the way up. There is a lot at stake. In addition to the prestigious British title, everything will open up for the winners. I think whoever comes through each fight has the potential to go on and dominate Europe in their respective division.”

Hennessy Sports promoted Daws, who holds an amateur win over Wright, landed his opportunity by stopping Colin Lynes in impressive style in January at the York Hall. The “Morden Massive” turned out in droves that night. An even bigger showing can be expected for his graduation to major Championship class.

Meager and Stewart also had their most recent outings at the home of British Boxing earlier this year in warm-ups for their anticipated clash, both dominating four rounders. They shared a dressing room that night, but won’t on May 12th for the first time when boxing on the same bill.
