Boxing Info: Brian Magee – Carl Froch

Brian Magee is still bitterly disappointed that he has had to give up the home advantage of the Kings Hall in Belfast for his challenge against the British and Commonwealth super-middleweight champion Carl Froch now that the show has been moved to the famous York Hall in London’s East End.

Magee is hoping that a large Irish contingent will follow him across the Irish sea and he knows that nothing but a top class performance will bring the titles back to the Emerald Isles and a promised first defence of his title in his hometown.

Magee is still smarting that a major show is being put on a week before in Belfast when there have been no sign of major boxing in Belfast for a long while but like a true professional he accepts it would have wrong to expect the Irish public to shell out for two major shows back to back so he will pack his bags and head for Bethnal Green where he had three fights earlier in his career and his promoters have promised him a real Irish welcome on the 26th.

On the upcoming fight Magee commented “I notice that is there has been very little noise coming from the Cobra since his performance against Dale Westerman and there has been no calling out of Joe Calzaghe since his class win over Jeff Lacy, maybe the Cobra realises he is a domestic level fighter.”

Magee will do a couple of sparring sessions with Albanian Kresnick Qato in an attempt to win over the Albanian community and get there support behind him on the 26th May.

Last time out Qato outpointed Laurent Goury at the York Hall where he sold 400 tickets and Magee is hoping the Albanian’s will swap their red and black scarves for Green and gold ones the night he fight. Could this be a meeting of two countries without any politicians involved.

Magee claims “Froch may think he has won because the fight has been moved to London but after he pulled out of the original March 31st date through an injury I will make him pay for this by knocking him out in the mid-rounds, first off all I will take the sting out of the Cobra before I flatten him”

An interesting lightweight contest on the undercard sees Leo O’Reilly now fighting out of Kent take on Telford’s Gary Reid. Reid will be looking to put on a good performance to impress the knowledgeable London fans against O’Reilly, who suffered a draw last time out, and knows that
a win will take him to the position when he can look for title shots.
