Former super middleweight world champion Eric Lucas was the star of the show tonight as he returned to action in the light heavyweight division by scoring a technical knockout over veteran American Tony Menefee. The American, just a few fights shy of compiling a one-hundred fight ledger complained vigorously to the referee who had stepped in early in the second round after Menefee was wobbled by some smart combination punching from Lucas.
On the undercard, South African Dingaan Thobela’s weight increase did not help him against Lucien Bute. The fight had to be resigned to a higher weight class after Thobela could not reach the contracted lower weight. However, Bute overcame the former world champion regardless and stopped Thobela in the fourth round.
In heavyweight action, Jean Francois Bergeron took a six round decision over Reynaldo Minus. Bergeron may look to target newly crowned Canadian heavyweight champion Patrice L’Heureux for his next fight.
