Macho Man Predicts British Title Boxing Double

Lee Meager believes that both he and gym-mate Lenny Daws will make the most of their British title opportunities on the Hennessy Sports “Twenty-Four” event at the York Hall in Bethnal Green on Friday May 12th. The duo – both schooled from day one by Hennessy Sports trainer Robert McCracken at the team facility in London – fight for vacant Championships. The “Macho Man’ takes on Dave Stewart at Lightweight, whilst Daws meets former amateur victim Nigel Wright at Light Welter.

“Both me and Len will win,” Meager, from Salford, predicted. “I am very confident of that. I am in the best shape of my life and from what I can tell so is Lenny.”

The 28-year-old should know; he has been sharing some tough spars with the former ABA champion.

“Len is in great form. He’s got a massive engine; he doesn’t stop working. I know that he faces a tricky opponent in Wright, but I think he has got the tools to beat him.

“Wright is a southpaw which makes him very awkward, but Lenny will work him out. He will work him out and then wear him down like he did when they fought as amateurs. I can see him stopping him late on.”

Given his long-term friendship with Stewart – also promoted by Hennessy Sports – the respectful Meager opts not to give predictions on the specific manner of his victory.

“All I will say is that I think it is going to be an exciting fight and obviously that I will win,” he continued. “I’m really looking forward to winning the British title. I think I can compete at the very highest level and this can be start of it. I’m going to be aiming for the stars.

“People haven’t seen the best of me yet. I think its fair to say that I have under performed in the past, but I have really knuckled down over the last few months and Robert has continued to work wonders with me.

“I am not cutting corners anymore and have given myself a more stable environment to train in. My conditioning has developed beyond belief and I am looking forward to demonstrating that.”

When he does he will have an appreciative, capacity audience at the home of British Boxing.

“I love fighting in Bethnal Green,” Meager added. “It’s like having home advantage; I have lived down in London for six years now and the York Hall is my closest venue so I always get a decent turnout. I know everyone says it, but I love the atmosphere there. It’s hard to find anywhere else, particularly on a big night of boxing. ”
