Impact Boxing’s 007 Sighted at York Hall

Suave, sophisticated and debonair man about town, Mick Carney was last night spotted at the famous East End home of boxing: York Hall, Bethnal Green. He is licensed (by The British Boxing Board of Control) but his mandate is to thrill by promoting action packed shows at Stoke’s Kings Hall under the Impact Boxing banner.

Mick was on a mission but it was not a secret one; the vacant British Lightweight and Light-Welterweight titles were contested on The Hennessy promoted card and Mick was there to watch the contests. Lee Meager and Dave Stewart faced off for the Lightweight title and Lenny Daws battled Nigel Wright for the Light-Welterweight belt.

After the evenings proceedings had concluded Mick said: “Its been an excellent evenings boxing, not only were the two title bouts thrilling but there were some other good contests this evening. I’ve also seen some talented boxers, I was particularly impressed with Darren Barker. The crowd played their part tonight too; York Hall isn’t as big as the Kings Hall were we hold our shows but the atmosphere created by a full house is every bit as electric as the one we generate in Stoke.”

Mick went on to explain the reason for his presence at the Bethnal Green venue: ” You could say that I was on a mission tonight I suppose. The two titles that were contested tonight were in the same weight divisions as Scott Lawton and Gary Reid who we expect to be challenging for British titles within the next eighteen months to two years, I suppose you could say therefore that I was checking out the competition.”

“Scott (Lawton) fought Stewart in London three years ago and only lost to him by a single point on a dubious decision; I can see nothing in Stewart or Meager that we should be concerned about particularly with the form that Scott is showing at the moment. With regard to Wright and Daws, they are both tough boxers and put on a great contest tonight but Gary Reid wouldn’t have been out of his depth in the ring with either of them this evening. If Gary maintains his current progress I feel that he deserves a shot at major honours soon.”

“To be honest, my mission is a much longer term one, I am aiming to duplicate evenings like this in Stoke. I hope to be putting on shows were two or more major titles are fought for at the Kings Hall and to make the venue as well respected as York Hall is.”

Lenny Daws took the Light-Welterweight Title on a unanimous points decision and Meager collected the Lightweight belt after the referee stopped the contest in the 6th round to save Stewart further punishment.
