Boxing In Britain: Scott Harrison Pulls Out Of WBO Title Fight

WBO featherweight champion Scott Harrison has withdrawn from his title defence against Gairy St Clair scheduled to take place in Belfast on Saturday night. Harrison was arrested following an incident at a Dunbartonshire nightclub on Saturday night, although later released without charge. He had been due to tackle St Clair at the Kings Hall, but today told promoter Frank Warren he was not in the right state of mind to fight.

“Scott obviously has problems and whilst I have sympathy I’m very disappointed in him as it has not been dealt with in a professional manner,” said Warren.

“I have been continually informed by Scott’s advisors that he would be boxing but that is obviously not the case and has never been the case”.

“I would like to apologise to all the fans he has let down.”

Warren is confident of announcing a replacement title fight for the bill within the next 24 hours.

Meanwhile fight fans are still in for a treat on Saturday with Eamonn Magee defending his WBU welterweight title against Takaloo and Olympic silver medalist Amir Khan making his Belfast debut against Laszlo Komjathi.

While Magee and Takaloo is a potential fight of the year pitting two big-punching world class operators together, 19-year-old sensation Khan takes a significant step up in class against a former European lightweight title challenger.

There are also a host of top Northern Irish prospects in action, including Stephen Haughian.

“It’s still a great card and I’m sure the presence of Eamonn, Takaloo and Amir will more than make up for Scott not being present,” added Warren.
