Ian Clyde the former jockey turned boxer is set to be the first of Impact Boxing’s burgeoning stable of fighters to take to the ring when the new season starts in September. The Crewe based boxer is to appear on a Chris Sanigar show in Newport on 15th September where he is due to face local favourite Steve Anning in a light-welterweight bout.
Both Clyde and Anning have previously fought twice before with Clyde having recorded one win and one loss and Anning having lost one and drawn one.
Clyde’s victory came in his debut against, the veteran of 271 fights, Peter Buckley and he suffered a first round stoppage at the hands of Stafford debutant, Rob Hunt, in Walsall; both bouts were in May this year.
Anning drew his first pro fight at York Hall in April against Paul Porter who had only one previous outing and lost to a good Italian, Pietro Luigi Zara, on points over six rounds in Italy in June.
Anning, reported to be a good ticket seller, will have the home advantage and Clyde clearly didn’t travel well last time out, otherwise its difficult to predict the outcome.
Ian Clyde however claims to have learned from his experience and says:
“I got carried away against Rob Hunt at Walsall; I caught him with a sweet shot very early on and got a bit excited by the crowd reaction so the advice that my corner gave me went straight out of my head and I ignored the game plan. With hindsight, this played straight into Hunt’s hands and I paid the price. I won’t make the same mistake again.”
“I don’t know a lot about Steve Anning so I consider him to be a threat but I am stepping up my training and will be ready for him; he will have to be on form if he’s going to have a chance of beating me.”
