Impact Boxing: Gary Davies’ Opponent Confirmed

ByBoxing Press 22/09/2006

Promoters Impact Boxing today announced that Liverpool’s Central Area and British Masters super-bantamweight champion, Gary Davies will face Nottingham’s Barrington Brown over four rounds on 30th September at The Kings Hall, Stoke-on-Trent.

Both Davies and Brown have each won 4 and lost 2 of their 6 professional bouts to date. Three of Davies’ victories have come as the result of stoppages whereas Brown has won two of his contests by knockouts. Arguably, however Davies has the edge in terms of his previous opposition with the most notable of his wins coming in his last outing when he defeated the highly rated Chris Hooper to lift the two belts that he currently holds.

“I haven’t fought for seven months,” says Davies “and I’m just anxious to get back into the ring. On paper Barrington Brown looks like a handy boxer but I haven’t seen him so I can only go by his record which is very good. I will have to try an get hold of a video of him this week so that I can judge what type of fighter he is and plan accordingly. At the moment the fight looks 50:50 but my manager reckons that I should have too much for him.”

Davies went on: “I’m looking to move up the rankings and get a crack at the English title as soon as possible so I am going to have to beat decent lads along the way. I am determined to win this one and will come out firing on all cylinders. I am as fit as I could be and I’ve been doing plenty of good sparring in preparation, Brown will need to be in the form of his life if he’s going to beat me on the night.”

Brown too has reason to be confident; whilst Davies has never boxed at the Kings Hall previously Brown beat the local favourite, Micky Abbott, by an overwhelming margin in a six round points victory in February this year. Brown also emerged victorious in his last outing beating Lloyd Otte with a first round knockout at York Hall in May.

Mick Carney of the promoters, Impact Boxing, said: “I’ve been eager ever since I knew we had Gary on the bill. He’s an exciting prospect who is always likely to produce an explosive display. Barrington Brown on the other hand is a boxer who seems to be improving with experience and who is capable of causing an upset and as a consequence I am really looking forward to watching this bout. Gary has sold quite a few tickets in only a short time and will therefore have a very vocal support with him that will add to an already electric atmosphere. With a total of seven bouts and some very exciting fighters on the bill I am anticipating a top class night of boxing.”

Limited tickets for the event are still available and can be obtained by contacting the ticket-line on: 0845 156 7168
