Boxing Result: Buster Keaton Wins British Cruiserweight Title

Matthew Hatton Controversially Disqualified In Last Round Of Winning Performance!

Last night Fight Academy put on a cracking non-televised card at the Don Valley Stadium in Sheffield, England with cruiserweight veterans Buster Keaton and Lee Swaby vying for the British title that longtime beltholder Mark Hobson voluntarily gave up recently. The main support bout featured the very promising ex-two weight Central Area titlist Matthew Hatton going up against former English Light Welter Champ Alan Bosworth in an eliminator for the British Welterweight title.

The contest between Keaton and Swaby got off to a fine start with the southpaw Swaby using his height and reach advantage over his stocky opponent. The Brendan Ingle trained Keaton was coming off three straight loses but controlled the bout anytime that Swaby let him get in close.

In the third Swaby suffered a leg injury of sorts and Keaton took full advantage of the development, giving his rival no rest. Swaby then was cut, possibly by a clash of heads, in the sixth and by the seventh was simply no match for Keaton, prompting a stoppage of the bout.

With the win John “Buster” Keaton, 26-14 (16), becomes the British Cruiserweight Champion
While Lee Swaby falls to 22-16-2 (11).

On the undercard what looked like a sure victory in a British Welterweight title eliminator for Matthew Hatton turned into a disaster as the surging Manchester based younger brother of Ricky Hatton was disqualified in the tenth and final round by referee Howard Foster.

Foster had taken two points away from Hatton in the ninth round for low blows and after another landed just after the tenth and final round began, Hatton found himself disqualified from a bout in which he was enjoying a wide points advantage.
