This past Thursday night Cestus Management’s 160-prospect Donovan George scored an impressive fifth-round technical knockout victory against tough Haitian fighter Julio Jean. The fight took place on the under-card of the Top Rank promoted card which featured Kelly Pavlik.
Jean, who had gone ten hard rounds with “Irish John Duddy a mere nine-months earlier, proved to be a tough opponent and was game throughout the contest. Donovan was able to control the action using a crisp, hard jab and dropped several right hand bombs which took effect early in the bout.
In the fifth, George landed a skull rattling right bomb which floored Julio. The durable Haitian fighter beat the count, but was quickly mauled by “Da’ Bomb” prompting the referee to stop the carnage. Donovan, who improved to 10-0-1 with 8-kos, said, “I told you that I was going to destroy this guy (Julio Jean). He was a tough and strong opponent and I really respect him, but I knew I was going to win big!”
Cestus Management’s chief advisor, Mike Michael, stated,” We are extremely proud of Donovan George and feel that this was a solid win for him. He really showed some great boxing skills and also showed that he can really bang with both his fists.” Michael added, “We would like to thank Top Rank for this great opportunity and for the way they handled everything. They are true professionals and it was a pleasure. We hope to continue to work with them in the near future.”
