Prospect Bowes Gets Appleby Test At York Hall December 7

ByGoodwin Promotions 28/11/2013

Twenty nine year old Philip “Quicksilver” Bowes has made a fine start to his career with six unbeaten appearances, but now takes a massive step up in class when he takes on former British Champion Paul Appleby as a special feature in the “Lionheart and Braveheart” show promoted by Steve Goodwin of Goodwin Promotions, at York Hall in London on December 7.

Bowes says of his massive opportunity, “I am delighted to have the opportunity to box someone of Paul’s credentials and this fight will show whether I am capable of getting to British title level myself – which I believe I am.

“I do not want to build my record to 10-0 against nobodies. I want to be boxing for titles over the next six months and am aiming for Southern Area and English titles by that time.”

For Appleby, it is a chance to continue his comeback after a win against Lee Connelly earlier this year, as he targets a return to British title level.

The Bowes v Appleby bout is part of an 18 fight extravaganza which starts at 4.30 pm on Saturday 7th December and is expected to run until midnight.

Appleby is not the only Scottish boxer appearing. Goodwin’s “Golden Boy” John McCallum has his first title shot when he takes on Baltic Light-Middleweight Champion Adam Grabiec for the International Masters Bronze title.

Topping the bill is Lee “The Banjo” Markham who competes for his first 12 round title with a crack at the British Masters Super-Middleweight Gold title against former Southern Area Champion Sam Couzens.

Former two time Southern Area title challenger Kris Agyei-Dua hopes to make it third time lucky in aiming for a title. Kris competes for the International Masters Light-Middleweight title against Czech Jan Balog.

Exciting undefeated Heavyweight prospect AJ Carter has a four round contest against Luke Martin from the UK.

The exciting “Pexican” Johnny Garton is the current holder of the British Masters Bronze Welterweight title and has 10 wins from 10 fights. Johnny has a six round International contest in what is his toughest contest to date, taking on Stanisalv Nenkov who has won 7 from 11 fights.

“Saint” George Jupp has an International six round Super-Featherweight contest. George takes on the on-form Kristian Dochev who has won three from his last four fights and featured on Box Nation on 16th November recording another victory.

Super Bantamweight Lewis “Bad Breed” Pettitt has a six round contest. Lewis takes on “Ironman” Krzysztof Rogowski from Poland who has won six from 10 and is coming off a great win last time out.

Kevin Greenwood has recorded four consecutive victories at Super-Middleweight and will be aiming to make it five. The sensational Brett Beadon returns to York Hall three weeks after his devastating display against Rhys Saunders. Brett has a 4 round International contest.

Former Premier League professional footballer Leon McKenzie has made a perfect start to his professional boxing career with two victories and aims for his third in a four round super-middleweight contest.

Another former professional footballer Leo Roget makes his professional debut taking on Mitch Mitchell in a four round contest.

The show features the eagerly awaited debuts of Craig Hardy at Super-Featherweight, Adam Balski at Cruiserweight and John Cash at Light Middleweight. All participate in four round contests.

Essex’s Billy Wooders won his first three contests before suffering a shock defeat in his fourth bout. Billy starts his comeback in a four round welterweight contest.

Only a few tickets remain for this virtually sold out show. For tickets contact any of the boxers on the show or contact Goodwin Promotions on 01525 851150 or buy from www.ticketmaster.co.uk or www.goodwinpromotions.co.uk

Hrgovic has finally made it to the mountain as IBF world champion. He has himself to blame for not training hard enough or working on his conditioning, and his management team for failing to get him a title shot sooner. I get it. Can we now allow these prospects to develop on their own time now, please? There is a reason for rankings and a reason why more experienced fighters win.
