World Championship Boxing: Wladimir Klitschko vs. Calvin Brock

ByBoxing Press 11/11/2006

The World’s Most Famous Arena Hosts a Heavyweight Championship Bout, Live Tonight, Exclusively On HBO.

New York’s landmark sports and entertainment arena will play host to a heavyweight championship matchup when WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP BOXING: WLADIMIR KLITSCHKO VS. CALVIN BROCK is seen live from Madison Square Garden in New York on SATURDAY, NOV.11 (10:00 PM ET/7:00 PM PT). The HBO Sports team of Jim Lampley, Larry Merchant and Lennox Lewis will be ringside for the event, which will be available in HDTV, as well as closed-captioned for the hearing-impaired and presented in Spanish language on HBO Latino.
For the past two years heavyweight Wladimir Klitschko (46-3, 41 KOs) has been on a mission to rebuild his career and capture a heavyweight championship title. With his overwhelming victory over the resourceful Chris Byrd last April on HBO, Klitschko secured a heavyweight title and served noticed that he is a force in the division.

The 30-year-old Ukrainian was born in Kazakhstan. He and older brother, Vitali, developed into accomplished professional boxers though they both pursued a host of other interests. Wladimir speaks four languages and holds a Ph.D in sports science and philosophy from the University of Kiev.

Though he has fought the bulk of his career in Germany, he is now looking to showcase his talent in the United States. He will train with Hall of Fame trainer Emanuel Steward in the familiar boxing environment at the Poconos in eastern Pennsylvania for this showdown.

Stepping into the arena on fight night will be Charlotte native Calvin Brock (29-0, 22 KOs) in the biggest fight of his professional career. Brock has made headway in the division this year with two victories in Las Vegas and must now prepare for the most imposing challenge of his career.

In a manner similar to that of his opponent, Brock, 31, is a poised, confident and well-spoken athlete with a host of non-boxing interests. A graduate of the University of North Carolina-Charlotte, he earned a degree in business administration in college and is counting on another unpredictable night of action in the heavyweight ranks on Nov. 11.

HBO offers high definition television with East and West Coast feeds of its main programming channel. Currently, all World Championship Boxing events are broadcast in HDTV. HBO viewers must have access to the HBO HDTV channel to watch HBO programming in high definition.
