Andy Lee Primed For MSG Battle With John Jackson

Irish light middleweight fighter Andy Lee, currently ranked WBC # 6, will be in action again against John Jackson, ranked WBC #4, for the vacant NABF light middleweight title this Saturday evening at Madison Square Garden, New York City.

The scheduled 10 rounds bout will open the HBO PPV broadcast, supporting the main event of WBC middleweight champion Sergio Martinez against former three division title holder at junior welterweight, welterweight and junior middleweight, Miguel Cotto.

At the weigh-in for the fight Lee (32-2, 22 KO’s) from Limerick, Ireland tipped the scales on weight at 154 lb with Jackson (18-1, 15 KO’s) from St Thomas, U.S. Virgin Islands weighing two pounds lighter at 152 lb.

The Irishman has spent the last eight weeks preparing for this fight with his astute trainer Adam Booth at the Boxing Booth Gym, London.

The former 2004 Irish Olympian is primed for action and relishes the opportunity to fight at the Mecca of boxing at such a prestigious boxing event.

Lee commented ‘I had a great training camp, my preparation is complete and it is now time for me to execute the game plan and take care of business. This is a big stage and both my opponent and the occasion have motivated me every day in training.’

‘I fought at Madison Square Garden in November 2006 and defeated Dennis Sharpe and knocked out former light middleweight world champion Carl Daniels in March 2007 at the MSG Theater.’

‘John Jackson is a very good opponent, however I feel very positive about winning the fight and putting in a good performance for the fans. It is one fight at a time and I’m not thinking beyond Saturday night.’

The Irish southpaw certainly has plenty of experience and ring craft to trouble the talented 25 year old Jackson. Lee also has other useful weapons in his arsenal such as power in both hands to hurt and take a fighter out.
