Kell ‘Special K’ Brook Can Show Up Shawn ‘Showtime’ Porter

ByNick Chamberlain 16/08/201417/08/2014

Obviously, it depends on what Kell ‘Special K’ Brook brings into the ring on Saturday night, but he most definitely
has the ability to upset IBF Welterweight Champion Shawn Porter at StubHub Center in Carson, CA.

At his best, Brook is fast on the counter, has an awkward style to deal with, courtesy of his trainers the Ingles, and has enough sting in his punch to do damage. His KO ratio is just under 70%, stopping 22 of 32 opponents in his undefeated career..

At worst, he can be a bit of lazy fighter, who sometimes switches off and becomes complacent with head movement.
Porter, also undefeated, has faced 24 opponents and stopped 15 of them. With a bullish style, he looks to work off the jab, come inside and open up. That style can be either met with a similarly bullish approach or a countering approach, working off the back foot, which is what Kell is superb at.

If he stays switched on for the full fight, we all know that Porter is a buzzsaw and will leap into punches which means there is always the possibility of Porter catching Brook late in the fight when the champion’s movement has be known to wane.

Brook always looks in good shape though and seems to believe that this is his time, so if mentally he is all there then he can be a nightmare, stylistically, for Porter.

Not to diminish Porters achievement’s, he’s a good little fighter who gave us a great fight against Devon Alexander, I just think Alexander’s best work was at Light Welter.

The Paulie Malignaggi stoppage was by Porter…good…I suppose. Malignaggi was always known as being quite tough but he is not the same Malignaggi who went in against Miguel Cotto.

Malignaggi has had a hard career, fighting a great deal of punchers over the years, all of which inevitably went the distance because Paulie can’t punch, so he has shipped a lot of punishment.

What I am saying is Kell Brook would also have stopped Paulie Malignaggi that night, I think the New Yorker is done.
If Porter decides to box with Brook, and Brook keeps him on the outside and outboxes him until the middle rounds, it will be a very interesting fight. If the challenger can then turn the heat up, Porter will likely rush forward, allowing Brook to counter him, and stopping him late.
