Boxing Result: William “KO King” Guthrie Flattens Wiggins

Fans witnessed a real barnburner last Saturday night in an exciting, action packed fight that ended in dramatic fashion when IBF International Light Heavyweight Champion William “KO King” Guthrie flattened former NABF and WBC Continental Americas Champion Donnell “Cadillac” Wiggins at 2:21 of the fourth round of their scheduled eight round bout at the Florence County Fairgrounds in Florence, South Carolina.

Wiggins (24-8-3, 14 KO’s) came to fight, determined to dethrone the “KO King,” as well as rejuvenate his status in the light heavyweight division, only to find that Guthrie would have no part of his plan. The “KO King” fought back like his castle was under siege. For the first three rounds the fight was a nip-and-tuck battle, as both fighters preferred to fight in close, banging shots and exchanging at will. In the fourth stanza, the fighters once again met toe to toe and began to bang away but about three-quarters through the round, Guthrie fired a short straight right hand that nailed Wiggins right on the button, sending him helplessly to the canvas, face first and stiff as a board. As the referee began to count it was evident Wiggins would not be getting up. At six there was still no signs of movement from the limp and flattened Wiggins, who was counted out at the official time of 2:21 of the fourth round.

With this win Guthrie improved his record to 35-3-2 28 KO’s and put himself back in the mix as a light heavyweight contender.

“We plan to aggressively seek a world title fight for Guthrie with any of the current world champions at light heavyweight,” said Al Mermini of Silverhawk Promotions. “Roy Jones called William Guthrie a ‘true champion’ at his press conference last June in Boise, ID before his fight with Prince Badi Ajamu, (Guthrie stopped Luke Munsen on the Jones-Prince Badi card.) He comes to fight and his power is incredible. William is a marvelous puncher and we believe he can beat anyone in the top 10. Just look at his longevity and ability; even at his age he is still improving and looking better and better each time out.”
