Silverhawk Boxing to fly high in 2007

ByBoxing Press 13/12/2006

Silverhawk Championship Boxing has announced an enterprising January schedule, including venues in Michigan, Florida, Mississippi and The Bahamas, to kick-off a breakthrough 2007 for the third-year promotional company.

“We now have signed more than 20 world-class boxers and promising prospects,” Silverhawk Boxing vice president Jeff Grmoja said. “Silverhawk has also developed valuable relationships with other promoters all across the country, enabling us to co-promote and place our fighters on other promoter’s shows. Several of our fighters will fight for major world titles in 2007. Silverhawk will become a key player in boxing this coming year, aggressively promoting our fighters and shows to a growing audience of fans.”

Silverhawk and Fight Night, Inc. will co-promote the January 12th “Fight Night at The Palace,” headlined by Silverhawk’s NBA belt holder Rubin “Hollywood” Williams (29-2, 16 KOs) returning home to the Detroit area for a key fight against former NABA, NABF and USBA champ Antwun “Kid Dynamite” Echols (21-6-2, 27 KOs) for the vacant IBA World super middleweight title at the Palace at Auburn Hills in Michigan. Tickets, priced at $50.00 (VIP), $25.00 (reserved) and $15.00 (general admission), are on sale at www.palacenet.com.

On the same night, Silverhawk will promote a show at The Cuban Club in Tampa, Florida, featuring NBA light middleweight champion Eric “Murder” Mitchell (20-4-1, 10 KOs) versus former IBF title-holder J.C. Candelo (26-9-4, 18 KOs). In addition to Mitchell, Silverhawk sends out unbeaten lightweight Adrian “Juanito” Mora (17-0-1, 9 KOs), lightweight prospect Jaime “Superfly” Sandoval (13-1, 11 KOs) and undefeated cruiserweight Josh Green (8-0, 6 KOs) against opponents to be determined.

Silverhawk’s cruiserweight sensation B.J. “El Pelogroso” Flores (17-0-1, 12 KOs), reigning WBF All-Americas champion, takes on former NABA & Indiana State champion Chris “Cold Steel” Thomas (16-6-2, 14 KOs) in the January 13th main event for the WBF & NBA World super cruiserweight championship. Knockout Promotions, in association with Silverhawk Boxing, will present the show at the Knox Arena in Olive Branch, Mississippi. Call 901.383.0214 for ticket information.

Silverhawk Boxing is promoting back-to-back shows, Jan. 26 and 27, in Orlando (FL) and Nassau, The Bahamas, respectively.

Unbeaten USBO heavyweight champion Leo “Paco” Nolan (26-0, 10 KOs) battles Texas heavyweight title-holder Hector Fereryro (12-5-1, 10 KOs) for the vacant IBO Intercontinental crown at Destiny’s in Orlando. In the co-feature, former world title challenger Corey “Primetime” Johnson seeks revenge in a much-anticipated rematch against WBC Americas Jose “Temible” Varela (16-2, 10 KOs). Varela won a controversial 12-round majority decision against come backing Johnson on July 14 in Las Vegas.

In addition to Nolan and Johnston, Silverhawk will be represented on the Orlando card against opponents to be determined by former NABF super featherweight and lightweight champion Fernando “El Pillo” Trejo (27-12-4, 17 KOs), as well as undefeated prospects Alexis Camacho (13-0, 12 KOs), a junior middleweight, and cruiserweight Shane “The Irish Hitman” Benfield (15-0, 8 KOs).

The following evening in Nassau, Silverhawk presents “Big Drama in Little Bahama,” headlined by the homecoming of NBA and Caribbean heavyweight champion Sherman “The Caribbean Tank” Williams (31-17-2, 17 KOs), who’ll defend both belts against WBC Hispano title-holder Gonzalo Omar “El Paton” Basile (25-2, 12 KOs), fighting out of Argentina. In the co-feature, three-time world champion Stevie “Lil’ But Bad” Johnston (39-4-1, 18 KOs) meets Argentinean lightweight champ Fernando “El Vasco” Saucedo (25-4-3). Also scheduled to fight on the card against opponents to be determined are IBO Intercontinental middleweight champion Aaron “Homicide” Mitchell (25-1-1, 20 KOs), Bahamian light middleweight title-holder Jerome “Boomer” Ellis (11-5-1, 10 KOs), and Bahamian lightweight champion Meacher Major (11-3-1, 10 KOs).
