Boxing Info: Team Gammer Sticks To Guns Over Audley Harrison Rejection

British Heavyweight Champion Scott Gammer’s promoter/manager Paul Boyce confirms that he has rejected the overtures of Audley Harrison’s new promoter Sports Network and turned down an offer to meet “A-Force” at London’s Wembley Stadium in February.

“There been a lot of talk about Scott possibly fighting Audley Harrison,” said Boyce. “But it’s probably not going to happen. We’ve offered the fight to Audley twice in the past and he turned us down both times. Now, he’s got nothing to offer us back.

“The offer we were given recently to fight Audley called for the bout to take place in London but Scott is the champion and we think that when the fight takes place it should take place in Wales. Why should Scott have the disadvantages if he’s the champion?”

Boyce is taking the long term view for the career ofGammer and his strategy does include a bout with Harrison, just not at this time. “We have two other options, right now, that are better offers than what we’ve been presented to fight Harrison,” admitted the Welshman.

“We’re trying to put together a three fight package; a voluntary defense on February 16, face Danny Williams, Scott’s mandatory and who we still have a contract to fight, at the end of March or beginning of April and then fight Audley if he’s still interested, but in Wales.”

While Harrison’s winning performance against Williams two weeks ago converted many to the “A-Force” bandwagon, Boyce isn’t one of them. “Audley was blowing by the third round and I didn’t think that he looked any better than he has in his other fights,” he said. “Danny took that fight on about 10 days notice and he wasn’t fit; he didn’t do anything in the fight. I think Danny knew he was in it only for the money.”

Should Harrison and Gammer ever lock horns, Boyce envisions a far different experience for the former Olympic Gold Medallist. “Audley hasn’t really fought anyone like Scott before,” he said. “Scott will be angry, he’ll be fast, he’s very accurate with his punches and he can adapt.

“People don’t realize that he’s a very good boxer. Plus he can do something that Audley cannot and that is Scott can work for all three minutes and he can do it for twelve rounds. Scott wants the Audley Harrison fight.”
