British Boxing: Munyai And Power Make Weight

Tshifhiwa Munyai and Martin Power both managed to weigh inside 8st 6lb limit for their rematch tomorrow night for the bantamweight Commonwealth title at the Goresbrook Leisure Centre in Dagenham.
Power needed two attempts to make the bantamweight limit. The challenger originally tipped the scales three ounces over the limit but managed to lose the excess weight without too many problems. He officially weighed in at just over 8st 5lbs. The champion Munyai weighed in at 8stone 5lbs 6oz.
The fight, dubbed “Payback or Playback”, is a rematch of last year’s vicious battle between the two. Munyai was the victor last time around, stopping Power in nine gruelling rounds.
Having comfortably defended his Commonwealth tile in October with a sixth round stoppage over the previously unbeaten Lee Haskins, Munyai will tommorow night be attempting to complete a hat-trick of wins in England.
Also on the card is former IBO super middleweight champion Brian Magee. Magee has now moved up to the light heavyweight division and will fight Andrew Lowe in a British title eliminator. Magee weighed in at 12st 6lbs 6oz, while Lowe weighed in at 12st 6lbs 3oz at the second time of asking.
The winner may next be fighting either British champion Peter Oboh or number one contender Tony Oakey.
Unbeaten English champion Gary Woolcombe goes head to head with Andrew ‘Smiley’ Facey for the latters English light middleweight title. Woolcombe boasts an impressive record of 22-0 (7 KO’s) but will be facing his toughest challenge to date. Facey – who trains out of the famous Ingle gym – is a very awkward opponent, having fought the likes of Bradley Pryce and Jamie Moore. He also holds a win over the exciting Matthew Macklin. Both fighters weighed exactly the same weight – 10stone 13lbs 6oz.
