Amir Khan Foundation Joins Penny Appeal To Aid Refugees

ByBoxing Press 12/09/2015

Two-time world champion boxer Amir Khan is leading a joint Penny Appeal and Amir Khan Foundation convoy to distribute vital aid to refugees stranded on the island of Lesbos in Greece.

A UK-wide donation scheme has been set up by Penny Appeal and Amir Khan Foundation, allowing people to donate towards food, water, hygiene essentials and shelter.

People can also drop off other items like clothes, footwear, hygiene disposables and outdoor equipment at designated collection sites across the UK. These items will then be driven to Greece by volunteers and then handed out by both teams, including Amir Khan.

Amir Khan said: “It’s heartbreaking to see images of children losing their lives as their families flee from devastating conflict. What’s even more disturbing is knowing that many more lives will be lost unless we provide urgent aid to these refugees who are stranded and in desperate need.

“We’re seeing stories of people in countries like Germany doing so much for refugees and I know people in the UK are just as generous and thoughtful. This convoy is a great way for everyone to do something to help.”

Adeem Younis, Chair of Trustees at Penny Appeal, added: “Everyday, refugees arrive on the shores of Europe after surviving a horrendous journey with nothing more than the clothes they are wearing.

“The items we can provide will make a real difference, giving people hope as they take the first step on the path towards safer lives. We’re delighted to be working with Amir Khan and his Foundation on this life-saving project and call on people across the UK to get involved.”

The convoy will be leaving on Tuesday 15th September from Bolton and collection centres have been set up around the UK for people to donate their items before the convoy departs on a four-day journey across Europe.

Drop-off points for donations have been set up in Bradford, Leeds, Manchester, Bolton and Luton, and volunteers will be there to accept items like footwear, clothing, hygiene and outdoor equipment until the evening of Sunday 13th September.

If people can’t get to any of the locations in time, then they can make financial donations online or over the phone, which will go on to provide food, hygiene and emergency shelter to those refugees stranded on the island of Lesbos in Greece.

  • Daniel Dubois v Joseph Parker 30/10/2026
These two could face one another 30th January 2027. They were due to face one another before Dubois pulled out at the last minute. Parker will not have fought in 15 months since he lost to Fabio Wardley and was banned for using cocaine. Dubois will be fighting after destroying Wardley this month so he is keeping very busy. Dubois would be better waiting for […]

  • Haney does not want to fight Shakur 23/10/2026
I’ve seen their sparring videos on YouTube. And I can see why Haney is having all of this hullabaloo before signing on to fight Shakur Stevenson. He knows he can’t beat Shakur. Plus, coming off of that ass-whipping he got from Ryan Garcia, steroid claims aside, he knows Shakur will cook him and he does not want to have another legitimate loss on his record. […]
  • Ryan Garcia v Floyd Mayweather? 23/10/2026

  • Why did we believe Morrison would have beaten Mercer? 22/10/2026
Why was anyone giving Tommy Morrison a chance in that fight? That fight went the way it was supposed to go, with Ray Mercer winning even though that ko was probably one of the most brutal you would ever see in boxing. Check the facts, Mercer beat Morrison in the amateurs. Handily as well. Mercer was the champion… Mercer was the heavy favorite. 3 posts - 2 pa […]
  • I just realize how scared Spinks was ahead of his fight against Tyson 22/10/2026
Did you guys stop to appreciate how frightened Spinks was? Even as a trained fighter like himself, you could see the visible fear in his eyes. He knew he stood no chance of winning. He also was probably thinking about how bad those punches were going to hurt. lolol… I could swear I saw him trembling in the ring when Tyson’s music came on and started his walk […]
