Darnell Wilson vs. Kelvin Davis in Boxing Fan’s Dream Slugfest!

ByBoxing Press 31/01/2007

February 23, 2007, will be forever be known as “The Night the Lights Went Out in Scranton” after two of the world’s hardest punchers, Darnell “Ding-A-Ling Man” Wilson and Kelvin “Koncrete” Davis meet in one of every true fight fan’s most long-anticipated slugfests.

The sensational “don’t blink” cruiserweight thriller will top an exciting ESPN2’s “Friday Night Fights” broadcast promoted by Duva Boxing, in association with Northeast Boxing, event at the beautiful, newly renovated Scranton CYC Center in Scranton, Pennsylvania, that will also feature many of Duva Boxing’s up-and-coming young stable, as well as several local favorites.

“They’ve already sold over 2000 tickets and we’re expecting a sellout,” says excited promoter Dino Duva. “It’s a thrill to be helping bring world-class boxing back to a great fight town like Scranton.”

The event will be Duva’s first co-promotion with Chris Coyne and Maury Mehne of Northeast Boxing. “They’re doing a great job, and I’m excited about working with them. I hope this show will be the beginning of a long-term relationship with Chris and Maury to bring boxing to Scranton on a regular basis.”

Neither banger can afford to lose this fight.

After a disappointing four-fight slide in 2005/2006, the hammering fists of Wilson (20-5-3, 17 KOs) have him on a two-fight knockout streak over formidable once-beaten Daniel Judah (TKO 4) and “uncrowned champion” Dale Brown (TKO 2) for the Trans America Cruiserweight Championship on January 19.

Another sensational victory would put him back among the world’s top contenders for a world title shot.

Former IBF World Champion Davis (24-4-2, 17 KOs) has also righted the ship after a rocky 2005, winning three straight and putting himself in contention for a try at a second world title. A victory over Wilson would be just the ticket he needs to start his return to the top of the division.

Duva Boxing prospects scheduled for the supporting bouts include undefeated heavyweight sensation Mike Marrone (16-0, 13 KOs); Pernell Whitaker-trained future welterweight champion Raymond Biggs Jr., (4-0, 4 KOs); and newly signed welterweight power puncher Enrique Gutierrez (10-1, 8 KOs).

Local Scranton-area fighters making appearances will include once-beaten super middleweight prospect Marty Flynn (10-1, 5 KOs); lightweight Anthony Cusumano (1-1-1, 1 KO); and comebacking hometown light heavyweight veteran Chris Mills (26-2-1, 22 KOs).

All will be pitted against opponents that are still TBA.

Tickets for this spectacular event are priced from $25 to $150 and are available by calling Northeast Boxing at (570) 840-5703.

The ESPN2 Friday Night Fights broadcast of the event will begin at 9 pm EST. First bout will be at 7 pm.
