Fiel, Forestal, Jones On “Young Guns” Tijuana Show

ByBoxing Press 13/02/2016

Undefeated boxers Adam Fiel from the Philippines, Marcos Forestal of Cuba and Justin Mayweather Jones, brother of Floyd Mayweather, will see boxing action in Tijuana, Baja California on Friday, February 26.

The international fight card entitled “Young Guns” is presented by Borizteca Promotions as part of the World Class Boxing Series to be held in the Mezzanine Salon in that city.

All three fighters are at the beginning of what is expected to be successful careers in professional boxing. Their opponents will be announced shortly.

Fiel, a super featherweight division fighter based in Vacaville, California, was a member of the national Olympic team of the Philippines and also had a long and successful career as an amateur in the United States.

He currently has a 8-0 record with 4 knockouts. Fiel has made half of his fights in Mexico, with two performances in Tijuana, one in Ensenada and another one in Culiacan, Sinaloa.

Nicknamed “La Filipino Fury”, Fiel is trained and managed by Nonito Donaire Sr., father of the current WBO super bantamweight champion, Nonito Donaire.

Meanwhile, super bantam Marcos Forestal is considered a proven Cuban boxing star.

A three-time National Cuban Champion, Forestal was unbeaten in three World Series of Boxing with Cuba’s Domadores team, undefeated champions of the series in 2014. Forestal defected to the United States in April of that year and now lives in Los Angeles, California.

Forest is managed by the Irishman Gary Hyde, recognized as the man who originally signed Guillermo “The Jackal” Rigondeaux, after his resounding defection from Cuba.

Forestal made his professional debut in New York with Joe Goosen as trainer. Currently he has an undefeated record of 4-0 (3 KOs) and this will be his first presentation in Mexico.

Also in the card is unbeaten Justin Mayweather Jones, half-brother of the famous Floyd Mayweather. DNA testing was needed to verify the relationship of Justin with Floyd Mayweather Sr., but once confirmed in 2007, the family ties immediately narrowed.

After gaining experience as an amateur fighter nationally, Justin made his professional presentation in the welterweight division, knocking out Rick Ogden in two rounds in July 2013. His uncle, Roger Mayweather, was present at the evening.

Later, while he has stayed away from professional boxing for over a year and a half, he has been trained by his father in Las Vegas, Nevada.
This will be his second pro fight , scheduled in the super welterweight division for the fighter born in Grand Rapids, Michigan.

“It’s an evening of world-class talent, with fighters who are making history, that have a story to tell and have great future,” said Saul Rios, promoter of the event.

“We have formed a strong and experienced work group with contacts around the world. Additionally, we have established a working philosophy of presenting talented fighters in partnership with major boxer handlers in Mexico, United States and other countries.

“Tijuana has become one of the most active boxing cities in Mexico, generating activity for a good number of local fighters and above all, opening an important opportunity for the fighters that have been emerging to gain experience in this venue.

“Besides that, little by little we are also promoting local talent that may arise internationally. It’s a good balance for the public that visits the Mezzanine Salon, a venue that is rapidly gaining popularity and a reputation of being a first-rate boxing venue.”
