Hernandez Notches TKO Win Battle At The Boat 105

ByBoxing Press 29/03/2016

By the time the seventh round ended, Dionisio Miranda wanted nothing to do with Andrew Hernandez.

Hernandez was the more active and accurate boxer from the opening bell, dissecting Miranda with punches throughout their super middleweight clash before winning by seventh-round TKO in the main event of Battle at the Boat 105 at the Emerald Queen Casino in Tacoma on Saturday.

The win improves Hernandez to 11-4-1 with 3 KOs, while Miranda dropped to 22-15-2.

Miranda, a former NABA middleweight champion, entered the bout with 19 career knockouts, but failed to land any quality punches as he was never able to catch up to Hernandez.

After another convincing round for Hernandez, Miranda, who appeared sluggish from the start, elected to remain in his corner at the start of the eighth round, leading to the scheduled 10-round bout being waved off.

Isaac Tadeo highlighted the undercard by remaining undefeated with a unanimous decision (50-45, 50-45, 50-45) over a game Chad McKinney in an thrilling five-round super welterweight co-main event which was heavy on punches and light on defense.

Tadeo, who improved to 7-0 with the victory, looked to put things away early, landing a flurry of combinations midway through the first round which appeared to briefly daze McKinney, who was able to fend off the onslaught to make it through the opening round.

Tadeo continued to find the mark in an exciting second round as McKinney’s solid chin was on display. Several times throughout the bout McKinney challenged Tadeo to hit him.

Tadeo obliged, successfully connecting on a high percentage of his punches over the next three rounds en route to the lopsided victory.

Despite suffering the defeat, McKinney won the applause from a very pro-Tadeo crowd after going toe-to-toe for all five rounds with their fighter before performing a pair of in-ring backflips immediately after the final bell.

Welterweight Andres Reyes (4-1-0) looked extremely sharp during his five-round unanimous decision (49-45, 50-44, 50-44) over Zach Cooper (3-2-2, 2 KOs).

Reyes knocked Cooper down with a left late in the first round, and appeared to have his opponent in trouble against the ropes in the second round as he built a sizeable advantage before controlling the pace for the remainder of the fight.

Middleweight Tommy Turner (4-5-0, 3 KOs) registered the night’s first knockout, stopping Andre Keys (1-1-0, KO) by first round TKO (1:36) with a left hook.

Also on the undercard, Seattle’s Gabriel Solorio (1-1-1) defeated Antonio Neal (3-5-0, 3 KOs) by unanimous decision (40-36, 40-36, 40-36) in a four-round super middleweight bout, while welterweight Sean Gee (3-3-0), of Portland, Ore. scored a four-round majority decision (38-38, 40-35, 39-37) over William Fernandez (0-5-0).

Boxing returns to the Emerald Queen Casino in Tacoma on June 11 with Battle at the Boat 106.

Battle at the Boat 105 was presented by Brian Halquist Productions.
