13 Bout “Redemption” Boxing Card Set For May 13 In Tijuana

The “Redemption” boxing card, to be presented at the Salon Mezzanine of Tijuana, Baja California, Mexico scheduled for next May 13, will feature some of the most prominent prospects from prestigious boxing gyms in Oakland, Los Angeles, San Diego, California and Las Vegas, Nevada.

Presented by Borizteca Boxing, the card will consist of 13 fights, mostly four round bouts, with 56 scheduled rounds, and will include the professional debut of the two sons of the late boxer Hector “Torero” Lopez.

Featherweight Adam Lopez will face Hector Garcia, while Hector Lopez Jr. will face an opponent to be named in the super featherweight division.

The Lopez brothers come from the Pullmans Boxing Gym and represent Team Humble Hands of Burbank. They are trained by the experienced Eddie Levine, who in his long career has worked with fighters like Cuban Juan Carlos Gomez, Ecuador’s Fernando Zuniga, the Mexican Olympic 1996, Samuel “Zurdo de Oro” Lopez and finally, Hector “Matador” Lopez , from whom he “inherited” the now debutant fighters.

Welterweight, Simon Torres, The House of Boxing in San Diego, who has been sparring and training with Saul “Canelo” Alvarez for his fight against Amir Kahn, will debut against Roman Mendez, of Tijuana in the 154-pound division.

The House of Boxing is “The house that Carlos Barragan built” in National City bordering Tijuana. Directed now along with his Carlos Jr. the gym is recognized as one of the best in the San Diego area, being the venue for training camps for great fighters like Chris Arreola, Josesito Lopez, Antonio Orozco and in recent days, Alvarez.

Another representative of that gym is the popular prospect Armando Tobar, who returns to the Salon Mezzanine, after a controversial decision against him in the last outing. His opponent will be Ramón Palma at lightweight.

Another fighter fighters kinship with history, is the Dominican Reyes Manon Sosa – Merqui Sosa’s brother – representing Battle Tested Inc. in Oakland, California. The fighter will be seeing action against an opponent to be determined.

Reyes is trained by Tony Hirsch, who heads the Athletic Dogtown boxing program in Oakland and is the current champion of the WBC North America in the middleweight division.

Meanwhile, Roberto Meza, who had a brilliant career as an amateur under the shield of Temecula Boxing Club will debut against Dilan Valdez, from Tijuana.

Meza was one of those boxers affected by the new regulations by the Amateur Internatioal Boxing Association (AIBA), when USA Boxing granted an automatic berth to Carlos Balderas for the Rio 2016 Olympic Games. Balderas was a participant of the World Series of Boxing. This elliminated the U.S. boxer competition at 132 pounds, where Meza was competing for an Olympic ticket.

Another boxer, Michael Williams, hailing from the Mayweather Gym in Las Vegas will debut against Erick Mederos, of Tijuana in the welterweight division.

Among the fighters returning to the Salon Mezzanine is Alimkhan Jumakhov, born in Tajkistan and based in Reseda, California, who will head the card the evening facing Miguel Villalobos in the super featherweight division. Jumakhov represents The Sport Club Boxing Gym in Reseda, California.

Also known as Ali Khan, the fighter is trained by Lolik Kaminsky, a former fitness and boxing trainer for the Israel Armed Forces. Jumakhov just came from Tajikistan to train with him. This is his third fight in Mexico and the first of 2016.

Also returning to Tijuana will be Justin Mayweather Jones, the brother of Floyd Mayweather who now has an unbeaten record in 3 fights (3 KOs). The Michigan native, will be fighting against an opponent to be determined, in the 154-pound division.

On another fight, George Escalante of San Diego, goes after his fifth victory, his third in the Mezzanine Hall of Tijuana, facing the local fighter Roberto “Barbon” Moreno, in the light heavyweight division.

David Lopez, Los Angeles, fill face debutant Antonio Navidad, from Tijuana.

Finally, another bright prospect, Kevin Joshua, San Diego share debut with Gabriel Fernandez, Tijuana in the super welterweight division.

The “Redemption” card is part of the World Class Boxing Series, produced and distributed by PAP Sports. The event will be taped for delayed telecast to Baja California and the United States via LATV Networks, and worldwide via Internet.

Tickets for the “Redemption” card are available at the venue. Doors open at 7:30 PM; First bout will start at 8: 15 PM.
