Risum Boxing: Nasir vs. Wilaschek At Super Middle

Denmark’s former WBO Intercontinental title-challenger Fawaz Nasir (11-1, 6 KOs) will attempt to gatecrash the super middleweight division on July 28 at the Burg-Wächter Castello in Düsseldorf, Germany, when he takes on undefeated Pole Lukas Wilaschek (17-0, 6 KOs) over ten rounds. The fight will be promoted by Universum Box-Promotion, and at stake will be the International German super middleweight crown.

And it could turn out to be the perfect opportunity for Nasir, who gave a very good account of himself in his last major fight, the WBO-challenge against Sebastian Zbik last February, loosing only by a few points on the official scorecards, while quite a few ringsiders felt he deserved to win that fight. Since then he came back with a decisive second round stoppage over Czech Vladimir Fecko in May, and quickly made it clear that he would like one more fight before the end of the season.

“Fawaz is looking forward to this great opportunity, and he knows it’s a fight he can definitely win if he is willing to sacrifice what it takes. This is a fight that we have been pushing for since some months now, and it was great when Wilaschek and his manager, Dietmar Pozwa, took up the challenge,” says co-manager Henrik Risum, and continues:

“I have personally followed Wilaschek since the start of his career, and with the experience that Fawaz now have from the Zbik-fight this is just about the best opportunity he will ever get to make an instant impression on a new weight-division. Wilaschek is good, sure, but Fawaz can beat him, and I think that super middleweight will suit him very well.”

After an impressive amateur career that included 115 victories in 130 bouts, and silver medals at the 2002 and 2004 European championships, Lukas Wilaschek turned pro with Spotlight Boxing in September 2004. After sixteen straight victories, he captured the International German title with a unanimous decision over Germany-based Turk Ali Yildirim this spring. Nasir will be his first challenger.

A win over the Pole will open many doors for Nasir, and probably earn him a European ranking, which could ultimately lead to the 27-year-olds dream: a shot at the European championship:

Risum: “But that’s not something we can with good conscience talk about now, because Wilaschek will be a difficult man to beat, but at the same time I must say that if Fawaz cant beat him, then he is not good enough to realistically aim for a European title fight. I think he has what it takes, but he must take the mistakes from the past, like his lack of aggression against Zbik, and learn from them in order to win on July 28
