Friday Night World Boxing Preview

ByCurtis McCormick 27/07/2007

There’s a lot of action to go over for tonight’s line up of fights across the world and there’s no better place to start than at the Knox Netball Centre in the Melbourne suburb of Ferntree Gully in Victoria, Australia where local based Nigerian slugger Fatai Onikeke defends his IBA Pan Pacific and WBF Intercontinental Light Welter belts against Thailand’s Jakkirt Sunwunnalirt.

Heading north to the TVRI Studios in Jakarta, Indonesia, local man Roy Mukhlis puts his PABA Super Feather crown up for grabs against highly seasoned Filipino Jaime Barcelona.

Crossing the Indian Ocean, the Indoor Centre in Mdantsane, South Africa sees Ludumo Galada risks his domestic featherweight belt against Thando Vukuza. Also on the bill, former South African Super Fly titlist Simon Ramoni faces Lubabalo Msuthu at bantamweight.

Jumping to yet another continent, we next visit The Casino in Vilamoura, Portugal where Jesus Garcia Escalona of Madrid meets local man Antonio Joao Bento for the vacant European Union Super Feather trophy.

Heading east we arrive at the Stadio Comunale in San Paolo Civitate, Italy where Dejan Ribac of Belgrade takes on local hero Antonio Di Feto for the vacant WBC Mediterranean belt. Also scheduled for action, former two time European title challenger Lorenzo Di Giacomo faces Zoran Plavsic over six rounds at middleweight.

That’s it for Europe; next stop, South America where at Club Deportivo Libertad in Sante Fe, Argentina, world class light heavy contender Hugo Hernan Garay looks to stay busy against fellow countryman Orlando Antonio Farias over ten rounds. Promising light welter Victor Hugo Castro also sees action, squaring off with Nazareno Tripolli over six rounds.

Mexico hosts two decent fight cards, the first of which takes place at Guasave in Sinaloa where super feather Jovanny Soto tangles with Ricardo Astorga for the vacant WBC Fecombox title while the second card happens at the Poliforo Juan Gabriel in Ciudad Juarez where Eduardo Lazcano goes up against Salvador Sanchez to decide the vacant WBC Youth Super Bantam title.

Going over the border, there’s a lot to keep us busy in America. First up, hot light welter prospect Timothy Bradley puts his WBC Youth honor up to the winner of his clash with Miguel Vasquez at Omega Products International in Corona, California.

At the Isleta Casino in Albuquerque, New Mexico former WBC Super Fly Champ Martin Castillo continues his comeback with a 12 round scrap against veteran Oscar Andrade. Southpaw light middle Ray Sanchez also figures in on the bill, squaring off with Travis Hartman.

Comebacking heavyweight Brian Minto will come to grips with Ray Lunsford at the Mountaineer Race Track in Chester, West Virginia.

At the Sheraton in Miami, Florida, former light heavyweight world champion Glen Johnson stays busy with a scheduled ten rounder against Fred Moore.

We bring this Friday’s world preview report to a close at the Desert Diamond Casino in Tucson, Arizona where former teenage sensation Francisco Bojado continues down comeback road with a ten rounder at light welter against Rogelio Castaneda, Jr.
