IBF Boxing Champ Guerreo Gets Honorio Fight On New Date

“I’m happy and appreciative that my fight with Martin Honorio has been rescheduled,” said IBF Featherweight Champion Robert “The Ghost” Guerrero.

“I want to thank my management team, Goossen Tutor, Goldenboy and Showtime for the opportunity to showcase my skills on a national stage.

“I’ve worked real hard to get to this point and I plan to show the world that I belong with the best fighters in my division. On November 3rd, you will see a warrior in me that’s going to lay it all on the line.”

Guerrero, 20-1-1 (13), has won his last four bouts, along with one no contest, since dropping a close split decision to Gamaliel Diaz in June of 2006.

The Gilroy, CA native won the IBF belt a year ago by stopping Eric Aiken at the Staples Center in Los Angeles, only to lose it in his first defense against Orlando Salido in November, 2006 but the title was declared vacant as the bout was ruled a no contest sortly afterward.

Guerreo then picked up the vacant IBF title again with a ninth round stoppage over Spend Abazi this past February.

The man who will challenge Guerrero, Martin Honorio, at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas on November 3 will present the champion with the rare instance of facing at taller man.

The 5 foot 10 inch Honorio, 24-3-1 (12), has won six of his last seven fights with a draw thrown in, since getting knocked out by William Abelyan in 2004.

The best win of Honorio’s career was a ten round unanimous decision over current WBO Feather Champ Steven Luevano in 2005, but the 27 year old from Mexico City has been pushed hard in his last two contests, gaining split decision wins over tough opposition in the form of Joe Morales and Rogers Mtagwa.
