Risum Boxing: Danish Golden Boy Poulsen Shows Potential In Clear Victory

Danish super featherweight prospect Kim “Golden Boy” Poulsen improved his record to 5-1 (1) with a shutout unanimous decision-victory via scores of 40-36 on all three cards over previously undefeated Polish hope Tomasz Kwiecien, (1-0), last night in Soumagne, Belgium.

Poulsen delivered probably his best performance to date, in what was his first televised fight. The show, promoted by EuroBoxe in associated with Fight Production, was broadcasted live in Belgium.

An aggressive Poulsen started the fight by taking control with sharp combinations to body and head, and forced his opponent backwards. Several times in each round the Dane went effectively to the body of his taller foe, and followed with excellent hooks to the head, which had Kwiecien’s head snapping back violently.

The Pole showed magnificent durability in not going down, and must have earned the respect of everyone watching.

The 20-year-old Risum Boxing-fighter combined his attacks with very good foot and head-movement, avoiding almost all of Kwiecien’s punches in a performance close to perfection.

But only “close to”, says manager Henrik Risum:
“Kim really boxed nice, and had Kwiecien staggering several times in the fight, but when he hurt him he made the mistake of getting over-excited in going for the knockout. That’s probably why he didn’t actually get the knockout, which would have made the performance perfect.

“Had the fight been a six-rounder, which we wanted but the Poles didn’t, I don’t think it would have gone the distance. However, Kwiecien is a good fighter, and he came to fight his chance and was very durable.

“Many boxers would have gone down, and stayed down, after being hit with some of the punches Kim hit him with, but he just came back punching, so we have a lot of respect for him,” said Risum.

The winner was also satisfied with the fight, “This guy was hard to hit to the head because of his height, but still I managed to do it many times with my hooks, so I cant complain,” said Poulsen.

“He is a tough guy, and I take my hat off to him. I am pleased with how I boxed, because I got to use some of the things we have been working on in the gym, and it came out pretty good in the fight. I look forward to the next one…”

Risum Boxing is working on the next date for Poulsen, which will probably be some time in November.
