Light welterweight contender Mike Stewart of New Castle, DE ran into a roadblock on a Peltz Boxing card at The New Alhambra in Philadelphia last night in the form of Denver’s Robert Frankel, dropping a ten round unanimous decision.
The 27 year old Frankel simply had just too much in the tank for Stewart, who over the course of his career had beaten Terron Millett, Ivan Robinson, Ebo Elder and Omar Bernal but reached his career peak in 2004, in which the hard nosed “No Joke” challenged such top men in the 140 lb division as Ricky Hatton and Sharmba Mitchell.
The big hearted Stewart drops to 42-7-2 (23) and may be nearing the end of his career while Frankel wins his third in a row and moves to 21-7-1 (4).
Also on the bill, hard punching Philly welter prospect Mike Jones, 11-0 (11), continued to impress, knocking out overmatched North Carolinian Richard Hall, 10-20-2 (6), who has now lost nine of his last eleven bouts.
Local hammer-fisted heavyweight John Poore, 19-2 (18), saw his first victory by decision as durable Ohio novice Mike Miller, 2-5-1 (2), managed to go the six round distance in a losing effort.
