Risum Boxing: Danish Golden Boy Kim Poulsen Returns To London

On November 28, Danish super featherweight prospect Kim “Golden Boy” Poulsen will close out the year with his third appearance at the glamorous Café Royal in London, England, when he takes on an opponent to be announced over six rounds on a show promoted by the Mayfair Sporting Club and Mickey Helliet. This will be Poulsen’s fourth fight over-all in London.

“I am currently discussing with Mickey who would be the right opponent for Kim this time, and we hope to have something concrete settled soon.

“However, In Britain you never get any pushover opponents, even if a win-loss record is poor, so you always have to be prepared well. We look forward to going back to London, which has almost developed into a second “home town” for Kim”, says manager Henrik Risum.

Poulsen is in full preparations for the up-coming bout, and sparring with, among others, former European and world title-challenger Allan Vester. With three weeks to go, everything is going according to plans, and Denmark’s youngest professional boxer (20 years old) is counting the days, saying:

“My last fight in London was a big disappointment for everybody. I had an off night and didn’t box up to my level at all, so now I really want to go back and show everybody that I am back to my old self”.

Poulsen lost a disputed 57-58 decision to tough Frenchman Tony Jourda at the Savoy Hotel back in April, a bout that most felt he deserved to win despite a below-par performance. Since then he has scored two clear victories in Germany and Belgium, most recently out-boxing previously undefeated Pole Tomasz Kwiecien in September, taking his record to 5-1 (1) in his first year as a pro.

And despite it being early days, the European boxing scene has already taken notice of the Dane, Risum twice getting approached for possible IBF Youth world title fights for his protégé: “Its very flattering, and very motivating for Kim, but everything in due time, and Kim’s opportunities will come later also. Right now he needs more experience!” says Risum.
