At the Lotto Arena in Antwerp, Belgium, European Welterweight Champion Jackson “Sugar The Ball Brains” Osei Bonsu retained his belt with a twelve round decision over French titlist Brice Faradji, via scores of 118-109, 116-111 and 115-113.

Bonsu, 27-1 (23), has the reputation as one of the biggest pound for pound punchers in the game today and decked Faradji, 25-9 (8), in both the fifth and sixth frames but the Algerian born Frenchman survived the scare to see out the remainder of the bout.

26 year old Bonsu, a native of Ghana residing in Belgium, has won 20 consecutive contests, 18 by way of stoppage, including a eighth round KO of Nordine Mouchi in February, 2007 to win the European crown. A WBC title shot is likely in the near future of Bonsu.

The Estadio Chocon Lauquen in Villa El Chocon, Argentina, saw South American Lightweight Champion Aldo Nazareno Rios, 44-4 (10), defeat southpaw Diego Martin Alzugaray, 22-16-4 (3), for the second straight fight, this time for the Argentine title.

A former WBC Mundo Hispano titlist, Alzugaray narrowly missed knocking off future WBO Super Feather kingpin Jorge Rodrigo Barrios in 2004 while Rios has only come up short by decision in world title fights against Stevie Johnston, Artur Grigorian and Isaac Hlatshwayo and was only ever stopped when going up to light welter against Ricky Hatton in 2003.

On the undercard, Jeremias Ezequiel Castillo, 10-2-1 (7), shook off a standing eight count in the first to stop the far more experienced Bruno Horacio Godoy, 20-3 (9), in the second frame.

Castillo’s victory stands as a major upset and the 22 year old from Buenos Aires could have won himself a bout with Rios for the domestic title in the near future.

At historic York Hall in London, England, Commonwealth Super Feather titlist Kevin Mitchell, 25-0 (18), defeated late sub opponent Edison Torres, 41-34-4 (27), via third round stoppage in a non-title bout. On the undercard, flashy light middle Anthony Small, 18-1 (12), stopped big hearted former two weight WBU Champ Takaloo, 25-7 (17), in the seventh.
