Jones wants Lehoullier

On Friday night Carson Jones went from journeyman to prospect, with an impressive lopsided decision win over Jose Luis Gonzales on ESPN2’S “Friday Night Fights” telecast from the Buffalo Run Casino in Miami, OK.

Jones dominated Gonzales, using angles and quick combinations to keep his opponent at bay for much of the night. The final tallies of 98-92, 98-92 and 100-90 earned Jones the NABA crown.

“Gonzales thought I would fight the same as I did in our first fight,” said Jones, who defeated Gonzales via six round majority decision this past January. “But I showed I am getting better each time. I showed my skills and did exactly what I said I would inside the ring.”

Soon after the most impressive win of his career, Jones began plotting his future and one name jumped right to the top of the list, undefeated junior middleweight contender Jason Lehoullier.

Lehoullier, 21-0-1, 8 KO’s, is coming off a hotly disputed ten round draw with Gonzales, now 11-3-1, 9 KO’s. The bout was so disputed that ESPN2’s Teddy Atlas called for the judges to be handcuffed.

“I am not impressed with Lehoullier,” said Jones. “He got a huge hometown gift in his last fight as I thought Gonzales won at least 7 of the 10 rounds. I will knock Lehoullier out. But I doubt he will fight me.”

Despite a deceiving 14-6-1, 7 KO’s record, the win over Gonzales should propel Jones, who is just 21 years old, into the regional rankings.

“My career has suffered poor management,” said Jones. “But now I am managed by Bobby Dobbs and I trust him and know that he is going to direct me in the right direction, towards a world title some day.”
