Standing 8 Boxing: Mendy vs. Naugler October 25 In South Carolina

Standing 8 Productions is pleased to announce the return of Jean Paul “The Profound” Mendy to the states on Saturday, October 25 at the Township Auditorium in Columbia, SC where he will face Jason “Notorious” Naugler. This bout is for the vacant IBF International Super Middleweight title and a great opportunity for both fighters to get the much deserved recognition from the boxing world.

Mendy is coming off of a layoff of nearly a year and is anxious to get back in ring against a worthy opponent to show everyone that he has the mettle to be the next world champion and is ducking no one on the way to that goal.

Jean Paul brings to the ring an unblemished record of 25 wins, 13 by knockout. Mendy’s promoter, Gabriel Gaide, has big plans for his fighter and is committed to campaigning him in the United States as he and Mendy both realize he will need to fight here to meet the caliber of fighter he has to face to if he expects to be recognized as a contender for a world title shot.

The Canadian Light Heavyweight Champion Naugler has gone the distance with current light heavy World Champion Chad Dawson, who recently defended his title against Antonio Tarver. Naugler has never been knocked out in any of his bouts ,including fights with contenders Jesse Brinkley of “the Contender” fame and James McGirt Jr.

Having never been stopped, Naugler will definitely brin g his A game, notorious chin and the heart of a champion when he faces Mendy as he too knows he has something to prove to the boxing fans. This fight will be one of the best bouts ever fought in South Carolina’s Capitol City.

Standing 8 Productions has done a stellar job in promoting this fight with exposure in every medium available and the VIP and dignitary guest list is a virtual who’s who of Columbia and surrounding area. The event will be hosted by Actor/Comedian Eddie Griffin with special guest Akon, who of the same origin and fellow countryman of Gabriel Gaide and Jean Paul Mendy.

The co-main event matches Shawn the “Sioux Warrior” Hawk of Sioux Falls, South Dakota against Josh “the Slinger” Green of Clover, South Carolina. Both Green and Hawk have undefeated records and are fighting for the USBO Cruiserweight title. These two fighters have similar records and are fighting for the opportunity to move upward in the rankings. This match up could prove to be the ceontest that will move each of these fighters to the next level and future bouts that will give them the much needed exposure that a young fighter has to have.

Green is the youngster in this event, at twenty one years of age, and he is in position to fight for several sanctioning organization’s youth titles. At 6’6″ and a cruiserweight who has fought the majority of his fights at light heavy , he has time and natural growth on his side should he decide to move up to20the heavyweight division.

Melinda “the Specialist” Cooper brings her undefeated record to the South on Saturday night when she faces Jessica “Goodnite” Mohs in what should prove to be a true test for Melinda as Jessica has only been stopped four times in her career. Melinda is coming off of an impressive win over South Carolina native Donna Biggers and is ready for this fight in Biggers’ home state.

Kelvin “Concrete” Davis, a former Cruiserweight world champion, takes on opponent Marcus Oliveria. This is the first time Kelvin has campaigned at light heavyweight in his 34 fight career and is ready to show the boxing world he is a contender at the new weight. Oliveria too realizes this is a great opportunity for him to make a statement.

Mehdi Azri is making his first appearance on this side of the Atlantic and is excited about fighting in front of the American boxing fans. Azri has an impressive 12-6 record as his losses came at the hands of fighters with a combined win loss record of 89-24.

Mehdi is focused and ready to take on a game William Ganes as Ganes fights in front of his fans from all around South Carolina. Ganes is trained and coached by his father, Jodi Ganes, who is well known in the low country for a stellar amateur career and his work with several local young fighters since retiring from boxing as a fighter and moving on to help the sport grow in the South.

Standing 8 Productions is looking forward to bringing more world class fights to this area and offering the opportunity to local boxers o fight here and around the world. This fight card is a strong card of evenly matched bouts as Gabriel Gaide brings his philosophy that the fans deserve to see good fights and new talent not normally given the exposure they deserve.

This card will be filmed for distribution throughout the Fox Network and rebroadcast in foreign countries as well. A former fighter himself, Gabriel Gaide recognizes the need for fresh talent to get the exposure they need while the fan also deserves evenly matched, entertaining events.
