Mayweather Avoids Jail.

ByBoxing Press 24/02/200512/05/2013
Two-time world boxing champion Floyd Mayweather Jr. was fined and ordered to perform community service but given no jail time on Wednesday in connection with a barroom fight. Mayweather entered a no-contest plea on Feb. 7 to a charge of misdemeanor assault and battery. Such a plea is not an admission of guilt but is treated as such for sentencing purposes. The

27-year-old boxer could have been sentenced to as much as three months in jail. That would have jeopardized his scheduled fight on June 11 against WBC super lightweight champion Arturo Gatti. The charge stemmed from an altercation in December that left a bouncer injured. A man other than Mayweather allegedly broke a bottle over the bouncer’s head, and Mayweather was accused of kicking the bar employee when he was down. The bouncer sued Mayweather over the incident, and that led to an out-of-court settlement.
