Risum Boxing: Poulsen Gets Career Best Win In London

Kim Poulsen made a successful lightweight debut on Wednesday night at the Cafe Royal in London, England, as he won a six-round decision over tough Georgian Nugzar Margvelashvili.

But it wasn’t the prettiest fight so far of the young Danes career, as Margvelashvili not only came to fight but also to spoil.

After a good start where Poulsen controlled the fight with his jab and won the first round handily, Nugzar managed to frustrate Poulsen a bit from then on with his unorthodox, switch-hitting style, and the remaining rounds were more competitive.

Margvelashvili was deducted a point in round four for holding a hitting, which were just one of the dirty tricks he brought with him to London.

Poulsen did well though, without impressing, under the circumstances, and referee Jeff Hinds scored the contest 58-55 in his favour and awarded Kim his careers best victory so far, taking his record to 10-1 (1), while Margvelashvili dropped to 16-5 (6).

“Margvelashvili is a difficult guy to look good against, and the most important thing was the victory and that Kim learns from the experience,” said manager Henrik Risum after the untidy affair.

“He did well, but there is room for improvement of course, as can only be expected from a 21-year-old at the start of his career.”

Risum Boxing will soon start working on the next fight for Poulsen.
