Hartlepool prospect Nigel Wright will now challenge Dean Hickman for the Vacant English Light-Welterweight title on Sports Network’s Fight Skool show on Friday 11 March at the Doncaster Dome. Wright was due to face the champion Young Mutley for the crown but the West Bromwich puncher has withdrawn and vacated the title due to a hand injury sustained in his fight against Geraint Harvey last month. Unbeaten Hickman, also from West Brom, is the Midland Area champion and will give the young star a tough test for his first title challenge. Wright, a double ABA Champion, said, “I’ve been preparing hard for Mutley but the change of opponent hasn’t bothered me,”

“I haven’t seen Hickman fight and I never watch videos of opponents anyway because you end up worrying more about what they are going to do you instead of concentrating on what you are going to do to them so I never bother,”

“I want to focus on what I am going to do, I believe in own ability and if I fight to my full potential nobody in Britain can beat me.”

“I have been sparring with the Buchanan brothers, Paul and Andrew, both middleweights for strength and power and for speed I’ve been working with British Masters Lightweight Champion Alan Temple,”

“I’m ready for this challenge and I’ve no doubts I will be crowned the new English Champion.”

Wright headlines a top-quality card that features fellow Fight Skool student Jason Rushton who challenges Hartlepool’s Lee Armstrong for the Vacant Central Area Light-Middleweight title.

Central Area Welterweight Champion Magic’ Matthew Hatton from Manchester has been added to the show and will feature in an eight-round contest.

Making his highly anticipated debut on Fight Skool is Nottingham’s hard-hitting talent Ricardo Samms. The former Phoenix ABC star is aiming for an impressive showing as he kicks of his professional career in a four-round contest.

Doncaster’s Steffy Bull and Dean Cockburn, Central Area champions at lightweight and super-middleweight respectively, complete the show.
