Boxing In Europe: Saturday Results

Aside from the big Klitschko vs. Raham world title fight show in Germany, there were a few decent fight cards on the Continent on Saturday.

At Hala Mosir in Ketrzyn, Poland, former WBC Youth Light Heavyweight beltholder Dawid “Gypsy” Kostecki, 29-1 (21), won his eighth contest on the bounce with a fifth round TKO of Kenyan super middle Samson “The Hammer” Onyango, 17-3 (12), at light heavy during a scheduled 10.

6 foot 5 inch tall Pawel Kolodziej, 22-0 (12), stayed perfect with a eight round points verdict over 5 foot 9 Hungarian southpaw Laszlo Hubert, 18-3 (9), in a rematch.

33 year old Hubert has only been a professional boxer since March of 2007, fighting seven times that year and an amazing 14 times in 2008.

Tomasz Hutkowski, 13-0-1 (10), defeated 38 year old Hungarian veteran Zoltan Beres, 38-41-2 (13), via third round stoppage at cruiserweight.

At Junosty Arena in Cheylabinsk, Russia, undefeated Congo-born Frenchman Doudou N’Gumbu, 14-0 (7), upset local man and former Russian champ Seifudin Barakhoev, 8-2 (5), in the seventh round to annex the vacant WBC International Light Heavyweight crown.

On the undercard, light middle prospect Timur Nergadze, 10-0 (2), stopped Akhmed Oligov, 20-7-1 (4), in the sixth.

There was action in France as lightweights Anthony Mezaache, 14-5-3 (3), and Afif Hamdani, 16-4-1 (4), fought to a majority draw in a bout for the French title at Gymnase Georges Racineau in the Paris suburb of Clichy.

30 year old Mezaache held onto the belt, which he won originally in July of last year with a narrow split decision victory over Hamdani. The pair faced off for the first time during Mezaache’s professional debut in a four round contest won by Marseille man Hamdani in 2003.

The undercard saw undefeated Montpellier woman Nadege Szikora, 4-0 (2), claim the vacant French Female Bantamweight title when opponent Isabelle Leonardi, 2-3-1 (0), was injured and could not continue in the seventh frame.

One of the top light middles in France, Cedric Vitu, 21-1- (8), stayed busy by outpointing opponent Hakim Rouassi, 6-6-1 (0), at Salle Marcel Coene In Montataire.

At Hala Borik in Baja Luka, Bosnia and Herzegovina, two prospects were in action as cruiserweight Goran Delic, 11-0 (1), outpointed German southpaw Marco Heinichen, 10-18-2 (6), over twelve rounds and WBC Mediterranean Super Middle beltholder Nikola Sjekloca, 13-0 (4), posted a six round decision over cruiserweight Josip Jalusic, 8-12-1 (7), during a non-title bout at light heavyweight.

There was Italian action as well on Saturday as the country’s top welter and former European Union titlist Daniele Petrucci, 23-0-1 (9), caged the vacant WBF Intercontinental crown with a wide 12 round unanimous decision against Cape Verde-born Luxembourg boxer Domingos Nascimento Monteiro, 18-11-4 (10), at the Tendastrisce in Rome.
