SaddoBoxing Writers Predict: Beyer-Green.

ByJim Cawkwell 12/03/200512/05/2013
Revenge is a dish best served cold, and a cold, calculated assassin is what Danny Green means to be when he steps into Markus Beyer’s home territory once again. Vengeance is on Green’s mind for what he sees as an unjust disqualification in his first chance at the WBC title.

Green seeks the WBC title, but it has proven to be something of a curse in recent years as it has rocketed like a pinball between almost a dozen fighters throughout the last decade. Seemingly unable to stay with a single fighter for more than one fight, the WBC title is now in the possession of Beyer for the third time, and this time, the German champion has no intentions of parting with it. Green became the interim champion, a distinction that means he is within a breath of the legitimate crown. Beyer felt the canvas in their first meeting, but came back and the battle is intriguingly poised at a critical stage of the careers of both fighters. Will the curse of the WBC title strike again, or can Green take the title back to Australia before embarking on a mission to unify it once and for all? Read on to find the opinions of the SaddoBoxing.com team of writers.

Greig Johnston: Green was quoted at $1.25 on Stan James, but to be frank, I think that is an insult to Markus Beyer. It was Green’s frustration at not being able to keep Beyer down in the last fight that led to his disqualification. Beyer, in spite of the cuts, looked to have Green figured out by the fifth round, although it was Danny’s inexperience at the highest level that cost him the win. Look for Beyer to stick and move, but I think that Green’s victory over Eric Lucas in hostile territory will have given him a big confidence boost. I don’t think it will be as one sided as the bookies will have you believe, but at the end of the day Green is a machine. I think he’ll wear Beyer down and stop him in round nine.

Katrina Walters: Although I haven’t seen many of Green’s fights, I like him, I like him a lot and I believe he will stop Beyer in the ninth.

Edwin Gonzalez: This will be very hard for me, considering I have never seen any of these guys fight. Both Markus Beyer and Danny Green have never fought in the United States. So I am just going by hearsay with a touch of a little research. This is the rematch now. The first time around Danny had Beyer down in rounds one and two, but Green gave the fight away as a result of a lack of discipline and patience. I found out that Danny Green was at the gym where James Toney trains in Los Angeles. He called James Toney out and both guys had the sparring session from hell. Although James Toney creamed him, Danny Green took his beating like a man. That leads me to believe one thing, Danny Green is one tough son of a gun. Any man crazy enough to call James Toney out in his own gym to fight, is ok in my book. I am going to go with Danny Green by knockout in eight rounds. He should be a lot smarter this time around.

Lee Bellfield: I think Beyer’s experience will be the key factor in this one and he will box his way to a unanimous decision.

Jim Cawkwell: Beyer is no stranger to the canvas and Green knows how to put him there. The consensus is that Beyer might be able to survive an early onslaught, and if so, he should win a decision. However, I think that with the element of revenge favoring Green, the fire will be in his belly and that an impressively aggressive performance will help him win the WBC title outright within seven rounds.

Don Caputo: This fight won’t go beyond five rounds. Green is just too strong; he will walk through Beyer’s punches and brutalize him with hard combinations to the head and body. It’s going to be a short night. Green by TKO in five.
