British Boxing: Frank Maloney Launches St. George’s Sporting Club
Frank Maloney will launch the exclusive St. George’s Sporting Club in the heart of London’s East End on Thursday, April 23.
The inaugural dinner and boxing show will also celebrate Maloney’s 25 years as a professional boxing promoter. This special event at The Troxy will be a mixed sex event, but there will be male only St, George’s Sporting Club shows around the country.
Maloney’s quarter-century anniversary, which is fittingly staged on St. George’s Day, will include a guest speaker, comedian, three fights and a four course meal with an English flavour.
Maloney said: “Traditional sporting clubs like the Anglo American Sporting Club have sadly become a thing of the past, but St. George’s Sporting Club will have many of its traits.
“There will be a summer ball in Manchester where ladies will be welcome and a special Christmas show, but there will be exclusive men only functions. The club will not have a fixed home as each function will be staged in a different part of the country.”
The Troxy is a splendid art deco Grade II listed building situated between the City of London and Canary Wharf, a left hook from where Maloney first started out in boxing at The Castle Pub.
Maloney added: “The Troxy is a magnificent building and there can’t a better venue to launch the club.”
Maloney first entered the boxing arena 30 years ago as a trainer, but has been staging shows from Lewisham to Las Vegas over the last 25 years.
He has also handled four major world champions Lennox Lewis, Scott Harrison, David Haye, and Paul Ingle.
Maloney currently promotes three European champions Jamie, Moore, Rendall Munroe and Ian Napa. His British and Commonwealth champions are Chris Edwards, Lee Haskins and Napa. Commonwealth title holders on his roster are Jason Booth and Ajose Olusegun.
Olympic bronze medallists Tony Jeffries and Darren Sutherland are also promoted by FTM Sports.
