Boxing Result: Moore Stops Dzuman, Retains European Title In Sunderland

ByRicky Jones 03/05/2009

European Light Middleweight Champion Jamie Moore retained his title for the first time by smashing the challenge of Roman Dzuman in the second round at Crow Tree Leisure Centre in Sunderland, England.

Just as in his title winning effort against Michele Piccirillo two month ago, Moore was simply on fire, pounding through the defenses of his Ukrainian opponent in the first frame before dropping Dzuman twice in the second with shattering body shots to produce a stoppage.

The 30 year old Salford southpaw improves to 32-3 (23) while Dzuman loses his third straight, and second European title challenge, to drop to 23-7-1 (10).

The big undercard saw a raft of important clashes as British Heavyweight Champion Danny Williams, 41-7 (31), again had mixed success against opponent John McDermott, 25-5 (16), posting a split decision win after the majority decision result last July.

As in the first bout, the action was not pretty as Williams lost two points and McDermott one for extracurricular infractions.

European Super Bantam Champ Rendall Munroe, 19-1 (8), added the vacant Commonwealth title with a hard fought 12 round unanimous decision against hard as nails Ghanaian challenger Isaac Nettey, 3-3-1 (1).

Light middleweight Sam Webb, 14-1 (4), won a British title eliminator by outpointing Thomas McDonagh, 34-2-3 (7), by a single point after ten hotly contested rounds.

Big punching heavyweight prospect Larry Olubamiwo, 4-1 (4), was shockingly defeated on points by Russian journeyman Daniel Peret, 16-21 (6), now fighting as Daniil Peretyatko, over six rounds.

2008 Olympic Bronze Medallist Tony Jeffries, 2-0 (2), won his second pro bout by stopping Germany’s Roy Meissner, 2-10 (2), in the first round.

Heavyweight hopeful Danny Hughes, 6-0-1 (1), won a six round points verdict over Howard Daley, 2-15-1 (1), while light middle Brian Rose, 12-0-1 (3), outpointed busy veteran Matt Scriven, 13-49 (1), over four frames.

The Dickinson brothers were also on the bill as cruiserweight John-Lewis, 3-0 (3), outpointed Nick Okoth, 8-22-5 (3), and super middle Travis, 2-0 (1), stopped Pawel Trebinski, 1-4-1 (0), in the first round.
