Nikita Tszyu vs Oscar Diaz Weigh-In Results: Tension Builds in Newcastle
Weigh-in day in Newcastle and things are starting to feel real now. The talking is mostly done, the scales don’t lie, and you could already see a bit of edge creeping in across the card. A couple of fighters pushing limits, a bit of needle here and there, and one or two moments that definitely weren’t in the script.
Main Event
Nikita Tszyu (11-0-0) – 69.40 kg vs Oscar Diaz (16-0-0) – 69.16 kg
Super welterweight – 10 rounds
Both men comfortably inside the limit, no drama on the scales. Diaz looked completely unfazed by the moment, casually dropping a “let’s go” like he’s been here a hundred times before. Tszyu, on the other hand, had that locked-in look — short, sharp, and to the point: “I’m here to hurt him.”
No theatrics, no messing about. Just two unbeaten fighters ready to find out who’s legit.
Co-Main Event
Callum Peters (6-0-0) – 72.94 kg vs Joeshon James (10-1-2) – 73.38 kg
Middleweight – 10 rounds
James came in a touch heavier but still on weight, and sounded confident — telling everyone to tune in because it’s going to be a great fight. Peters didn’t overcomplicate it: he’s excited, and he wants a war. Simple as that.
That usually means we’re getting a proper scrap.
Undercard
Brent Walton (4-2-0) – 66.32 kg vs Jayden Vasica (1-1-0) – 65.92 kg
Welterweight – 6 rounds
Headline of the prelims and both men looked sharp on the scales. Could be one of those fights that quietly steals the show.
Rahim Mundine (2-0-0) – 69.76 kg vs Lance McDonald (1-4-1) – 69.76 kg
Super welterweight – 5 rounds
Dead even on the scales. Mundine smiling as McDonald… well, let’s just say the weigh-in attire made sure nobody missed him. Consider this your warning if you’re watching it back.
Jack Bowen (12-1-0) – 76.02 kg vs Tonga Tongotongo (11-1-0) – 78.30 kg
Super middleweight – 10 rounds
Tongotongo came in over, which adds a bit of intrigue. Both guys carry solid records, so this one already had stakes — now it’s got a bit of tension too.
Kirra Ruston (8-0-0) – 79.06 kg vs Berkay Varol (9-0-0) – 78.24 kg
Light heavyweight – 10 rounds
Completely different vibe here — both fighters relaxed and respectful, with Ruston even handing over a stuffed kangaroo. Friendly… until the bell goes.
Kyron Dryden (13-2-0) – 66.04 kg vs Hunter Ioane (10-13-1) – 66.46 kg
Welterweight – 5 rounds
This one had a bit of spice. Ioane, who already got under Dryden’s skin at the press conference, went again at the face-off — shouting right in his face and kicking things off. Didn’t get out of hand, but you can tell there’s something brewing there.
Brandon Grach (4-1-0) – 116.1 kg vs Caleb Tialu (3-6-0) – 122.64 kg
Heavyweight – 4 rounds
Big men, big numbers. Heavyweights don’t need much more than that to make things interesting.
Wayne Telepe (3-2-0) – 61.53 kg (over) vs Benjamin Amos (3-1-0) – 61.16 kg
Lightweight – 4 rounds
Telepe missed the mark slightly, coming in over. Not ideal, but the fight goes on — and these are the kind that can turn scrappy fast.
Closing
No major disasters on the scales, but just enough drama to add a bit of edge to fight night. A couple of fighters pushing limits, a bit of bad blood creeping in, and an unbeaten main event that still feels like the real story here.
Newcastle should be loud for this one.
