Rolando Dy Crushes Paulie Malignaggi In Two Rounds To Retain Bare Knuckle Title
Former two-weight world boxing champion Paulie Malignaggi’s bare knuckle comeback ended in brutal fashion as Rolando Dy stopped him in the second round to retain the BKB Super Welterweight title in Manchester.
Malignaggi received a warm reception on the way to the ring, walking out to “Blue Moon” alongside Campbell Hatton in a classy hometown touch. The former world champion had also pledged his entire fight purse to the The Ricky Hatton Foundation ahead of the bout.
Once the fight started though, Dy was all business. The Filipino came out aggressive from the opening bell, landing heavy shots and refusing to let Malignaggi settle. The pressure finally told in round two when Dy unloaded with fight-ending punches to score the stoppage and keep hold of his title.
For Malignaggi, the dream of becoming a two-sport world champion ended quickly, but the Manchester crowd still gave him respect after the fight. Dy meanwhile adds another big-name scalp to his growing bare knuckle résumé.
