Exclusive Boxing Interview: Robert “The Ghost” Guerrero

ByGinamarie Russo 11/06/200912/05/2013

In the ring, his actions are so accelerated, you wish there was slow motion control. It is the result of drive and agility and also how Robert Guerrero was dubbed “Ghost.”

Since he was a child, he has been very swift when he boxes. Guerrero has a rare prowess on how he fights and prepares to fight.

Guerrero has been at Gio’s Brooklyn Boxing Gym in Burbank, CA where he is in training camp for his main event fight on June 12th against Efren Hinojosa at the HP Pavilion in San Jose on ESPN.

SaddoBoxing: Do you face any challenges with boxing?

Robert Guerrero: “There are always challenges in boxing, anything can happen. I am ready all the time.”

SB: Why did you move up in weight?

RG: “In the featherweight division, I was a two time IBF world champion. I had four champion defenses and 16 knockouts thus far. I moved up in weight and vacated my title to chase another. There is more competition at super featherweight. It is easier to make weight and I am stronger and faster.”

SB: You are a test for your opponents. Who, whether you have fought them are not, do you consider a test for yourself?

RG: “Any champion is a test for me; Pacquiao, Guzman, Soto.”

SB: You are in camp in Burbank now. How is training thus far?

RG: “Before camp I do mostly workouts at my gym, Robert Ghost Guerrero’s Boxing & Fitness in Gilroy, CA. I am preparing for everything. Camp keeps me isolated and focused, I am with my father and trainer, Ruben Guerrero.”

SB: Can you comment on your opponent on June 12, Efren Hinojosa?

RG: “I don’t know much about Efren Hinojosa. I have not watched any film on my opponent. I am going into this fight blind.”

You could anticipate watching Guerrero in an exciting performance Friday June 12th, on ESPN.
