Ronald “Winky†Wright put on a near flawless performance to dispatch Felix “Tito†Trinidad in fine style in front of an awestruck crowd at the MGM Grand. Round after round followed the same pattern as Winky slammed the jab and left cross into Tito’s face with monotonous ease, Winky was having fun in there and…
The first televised bout of the evening was the IBF light flyweight contest between Victor Burgos and Will Grigsby. As this fight materialized, lots began to happen throughout the MGM Grand in Las Vegas as the boxing world anticipated a potentially great night of championship boxing. But in the ring, a spirited effort was being…

I must apologize fight fans. I was so excited about the Corrales vs Castillo fight, that I forgot to include a piece on the co-featured main event of the televised portion of Showtime’s fight card. Juan Manuel Marquez put his IBF and WBA trinkets on the line against the tough and tricky Colombian southpaw Victor…
WHAT A FIGHT! I was going to provide a round by round account but, there is really no point. Here is the way every round went. Castillo and Corrales stood in the center of the ring, traded heavy leather, and both hurt each other throughout the fight. There are about five different rounds that could…
It took a little longer than their first meeting, but the result remained exactly the same. Welsh WBO super middleweight champion of the world Joe Calzaghe took his power to Veit’s Germany, and the result out of the judges’ hands with a dominating display in which Veit finally succumbed to a sixth round technical knockout….
What should have been an easy night for Manuel “Shotgun” Gomez, ended up being a majority draw against late replacement Jose Soto-Karrass. Gomez, looking out of shape, came into the bout extremely overconfident. After a brisk opening three rounds, Gomez looked like he was running out of gas. Soto-Karrass was very consistent with combinations and…
Yuri Foreman, on his ShoBox debut, won an eight round unanimous decision over formerly undefeated Kevin Cagle. Foreman, who had been absent from the world scene for over a year, looked very impressive, and showed great potential, as he out-boxed the game, but outclassed Kevin Cagle. Yuri opened the contest with a very brisk pace,…

Both men traded bombs from beginning through to round six, but round seven proved to change the tides for Toney when he caught Ruiz with a series of punches, knocking him down. From then on, Toney dominated…

In attendance were notables such as Iran “The Blade” Barkley, Emile Griffith, Junior Jones and Harold Letterman who were just some…
What a great night at the fights my fellow fanatics. Antonio Margarito put the finishing touches on a “Michael Angelo†type night at the fights. It’s too bad we did not get to see Juan Diaz vs. Ebo Elder because that probably would have solidified this as one of the best cards ever. Regardless, it…
