    Default calzaghes next opponent

As sad as it may be I can see Joes next fight being Manfredo.

Its announced today who hes fighting and he said he wants a top American, Jones was mentioned but he is now scheduled to fight. Manfredo is the only other American that is high up in the ratings.

He shouldnt waste his time and go for Kessler or Beyer in a unification

I would like to see him fight someone, who in theory will not be much of a test. Looking at the WBOgue ratings perhaps Cristian Sanavia fits the bill.

I just can't see it being Manfredo. I mean it's almost on the same level as Rocky Balboa getting his title shot against Apollo Creed.

I really like Manfredo, I think he comes across as a thouroughly nice young man. He's turned out to be the real star of the Contender in terms of marketability and mainstream appeal and has brought people who otherwise would have no interest in boxing to watching the sport.

Why oh why oh why oh why would the Contender promotional team want to see their greatest talent and commercial asset beaten down and destroyed by a ruthless champion like Calzaghe who would simply not care for Manfredo's 'pop idol' celebrity and just beat the living crap out of him.

Plus and this is the clincher for me. As a patriotic Brit Calzaghe and Hatton are my favourite fighters without question.

However if Calzaghe fought Manfredo the sheer scale of the challenge for Manfredo would be so great I just know I would end up rooting for the underdog. I mean he would no doubt have his lovely wife Yamilka ringside, his cute little daughter would probably be there too cheering him on.

I'm a ruthless fight fan generally but it would be heart breaking for a little girl to see Daddy killed in front of her eyes.

I know I'll be shouting at the screen for Manfredo to cover up and hold on, I don't want to see him busted up.

Aww man it's going to be like watching Frank Bruno fight again, my nerves never could stand it

No matter who he fights, he is going to get a decent crowd and thus a decent pay day. Calzaghe is starting to fall apart physically, he has problems with his hand and his back. So if is he going to get good money anyway, he should fight someone who is going to be less of a challenge, and thus perhaps be able to milk another fight out of his physically deteriorating body, down the line.

for a homecoming fight i think theyve picked the right opponent. after the big win against lacy he wants to showcase his skills against a man well known to the british public(well anyone who watched the contender). after this one hopefully more big fights will beckon

I would rather see Calzaghes move up to 175 than fight a non-competitive fight. If he cant get a unification buot then just move up to a challenge at 175. There is nothing left for him to do at 168 besides to try to unify. I would rather see him fight a nobody/noncompetitive fight at 175. Then at least there is the intrigue of him fighting at a new weight.

At this point unless it is a unifying bout it doesnt do a thing for Joe. He should be beyound fighting just to fight. He has shown that he is THE MAN at 168, so either he needs to challenge himself at 168 or move up.

I think Manfredo needs at least 1 more fight at 168...and must win in convincing fashion. Then I could see this fight happening. Manfredo seems to have found his groove.. But, Calzaghe is in a league by himself.
It feels good to be back home.

Apparently some thinks "the Prince" should get a shot at "The Italian Dragon". Amazing..another guy to get embarrased by Calzaghe.
