Watching a clip of roy jones fight hopkins I heard merchant say this as he was unipressed with roy jones he said this also when roy fought mcallum. Its just amazing how people blow hot and cold now hes a legend. boxing is so fickle your only as good as you last appearance, my answer yes jones was as good as everyone says and yes he wasnt as good as everyone says. Take in point if foreman kos ali who wast past his best when they fought he might go down as the most dominat greatest ever, was he the greatest of course not, if holyfield walks away after tyson he is a even more legendary, lennox beats an even older version of mike and its hi signature win which doesnt amount to much, all great fighters but boxing like i said is just fickle

Yes and he called Jones a fraud right before he fought Toney... and then.. after he beat James like he did..

Fuk Merchant. After Roy's crushing and tragic loss to Glen Johnson, Merchant had nothing but kind words to say... "This was like the death of a King..." Then after the third Tarver fight..."Jones was a good middleweight lets leave it at that.." He is a POS.

You guys haven't figured out that these are just a bunch of knobs commentating for HBO?

Lampley is highly biased and can't tell when a punch lands or doesn't land.

Merchant is slow and he is a dick in interviews unless you say exactly what he wants you to. He has been a fan for 40 years and still doesn't know much about the sport.

Lederman can't score a fight even though he preaches the criteria and he has that annoying voice.

But, even though they have their faults they do bring some excitement to the broadcast. It's fun listening to them try and figure out what's going on and being dicks.

Personally I think that 90% of boxing commentators know little or nothing about boxing...

RJJ is older than the age that SRL was, when he fought Norris, and only fours away from the being the age SRL was when he fought Camacho.

So if I was RJJ, I would be mighty grateful I am no SRL, at this stage in my career.

RJJ sure aint no SRL though, fair enough Merchant is a prick, but SRL had much better competition on his record then RJJ. And before slating me for being a RJJ hater, check the avatar.

Roy may very well have beaten Leonard but he would have by no means slaughtered him.

Actually if Foreman had beaten Ali he would have a very good claim to be the greatest. In fact I would probably have given him the acolade.

Winning fights against the best is what determines somebody's greatness. Had Ali lost to Foreman he would not be the greatest. Forerman would be rated higher, especially considering his comeback to win the title at 45.

So in my opinon if Foreman beat Ali he would be the greatest no question.

RJJ was a naturally bigger man then SRL. So in his prime he probably would win, however theres no doubt for me that Ray Leonard was a better P4P fighter.

Roberto Duran is one of the greatest fighters ever. His record against good fighters is worsened by the fact that he continued further than either RJJ or SRL into the doldrums of their careers.

I love Roberto Duran, hes my favourite fighter ever so I'm not gonna write a biased rant on why you're wrong. But if someone like BritKid The Walking Boxing Encyclopedia (to use his full name) wants to say something..........
