Im all for the lighter weights for reactive combinations that just seem to happen with that type of speed; There is no room for planing and many great things happen straight off the cuff.ITs where the learning ground to what can and cant be done is seen.
I think there is more room for advanced technical footwork within in the heavyweight division so as to utilize weight for and against ;specially fighting on the inside or to evade or make use of the inevitable clinches. They could easily train to make the others strengths turn against themselves and use balance for and against, if studdied correctly.
All that said: I recon the welter and middle have the best of both worlds; they can and do utilize things from both the extremes.
They have more control as they are comming out of the natural balance between the extremes so they can utilize nearly all the moves from both sides and so can be more technical about their approach.

Like Sal said if there is a risk of power against a guy with the speed of a welter weight you have to be technically sound.

Those fights get unpridictable but no one who doesnt know boxing well doesnt want to give a small mans fight their attention
but its less damaging when a KD is scored in those weights, they tend to just brawl, if you know you probably wont get up if you fall down your more tactical, im not saing lightweights arent fun to watch, i like to watch bantumweights, but as fas as tactic is concerened you gotta use your head at WW
Where did all or most of thr great technicians start. Their are two weight classes

I agree.Originally Posted by SalTheButcher
In the heavy weight classes... you can be a guy who was simply blessed with power and go in there and win. Shavers comes to mind. In the lower divisions, you gotta have speed, power, and technique to do well.
They all started exactly where we all do, at about 7lb 12 ounces.Originally Posted by Scrap
