Default Hey guys, thinking about starting boxing, suggestions please.

I'm new to this whole boxing thing and I just started thinking about asking my parents to sign me up for boxing so I have no gloves or anything. Right now I am swimming and working out sometimes but even though I have been swimming for 5 years I think its time for a new sport, because this isn't working out for me. Is 15 too early to start boxing? Nothing serious, just to keep in shape and learn the sport. I watch boxing on T.V. a lot and it seems like a very fun sport for me. Right now I am 6 feet tall, long arms, and in great condition. I do pull ups and pull ups about 4 days a week so I am in shape. Does anybody know where to start? Is boxing dangerous? I have to convince my parents I want to do boxing, they won't be too fond of the idea at first probably.

    Thanks for the replies

Hey man yea im 14 now and i started about a year ago when i was 13. Boxing is a great sport, the best i think. But i know alot of kids who go into the sport thinking they're just goin to get in there and kick some kids ass. My first fight i underestimated the kid and i got a broken nose. Tell your parents that we have to wear padded headgear, mouthguards, and the refs are very cautious and will stop a fight if it is going to be onesided. I love it but if you really want to fight youre going to have to got to the gym about every day, you HAVE to be dedicated.

Take boxing. It'll come in handy in 20 years when you're beating you wife.

Now THERE'S a sensible post from a 33 yeal old.

Seriously... just because you learn how to box (for fitness and self D) doesn't mean you have to compete.

when i broke my nose they threatened to stop me from boxing. My dad has this rule to, the first competition fight i lose i have to quit, he doesnt want my brains getting knocked around.

thats a bit harsh i reckon but i guess it keep u determined to win

yeah royale ( is that name from pulp fiction?? ) u say u just want to get in shape so it should be perfectly safe. at my gym for beginners they only let them hit the pads and bags and stuff u hav 2 be pretty good in order to spar..just a safety thing :P also be carefful of some gyms liek people hav said in lots of other topics some gyms dont liek get fitters.. so dont mention u dont wanna get serious with it unless u hav 2 boxing is the best and im sure ul enjoy it and maybe get a bit further into it

what he said is true so mention taht to ur parents. but thats a fight so trainings perfectly safe ,btw that was a good post knock out
ur parents have nothing to worry about theres liek no risk wen ur just training..unless u pull as muscle or somthing..but that can happan in any sport if ur both still unsure just go to the gym and have a look at wat they do i seriously dont think its dangerous unless u start fighting and even then its not to dangerous.

anywho good luck and tell us how u go
