Default Prime Bowe may have Beaten a Young Tyson

Before all the usual tyson destroys him in his prime, tyson beats superman nonsesne liste. The Bowe (pre fat slob lazy after futch bowe) that beat evander may have koed a young tyson, he had the tools a long hard jab a exceptional right hand and took good shots, i fear this would have been a good punching big man beating the smaller harder punching smaller man. Keep in mind eddie futch picked holy to beat tyson way back when they were both undefeated. Bowe is iddicult to gauge because his prime and desire was so short. I certainly think Mike could win but i think it would be interesting as mike never fought anyone with the technical and Power of Bowe. Pleae add your thoughts relstice thoughts not mike destroys him or riddick dominates, I am not biast either way just think it makes for a very interesting matchup, certainly mike has better power than evander did but he certainly could not take the shots evander did if it came to that, but who knows mikes defense was much much greater, but i belive bowe is a far far cry from spinks a fighter bowe would moslt likely ko in 1-2 rounds

I think this would have been very entertaining fight. When Mike Tyson had the right support system in place early in his career he was an awesome disciplined fighter Training at all hours and loving it. His timing was incredible and he never wasted punches. Bowe in his prime was lean and mean , at about 230 lbs. on a 6”5 frame. (Damn remember when Heavyweights actually got in shape to fight) . Those were the days. Anyway Bowe would fight on the inside when pressed and he could also box well.. I think Bowes flaw in this match up would be that he would give up his asset of height and allow Tyson to come in and that would be his ultimate demise. Bowe would fight a short mans fight if pressed. And the overall invincibility factor that Tyson had at that time would have been a huge mental boost for him. I think Bowe would have been intimidated. And would have lost mental focus . I would think that Tyson would have won . Now If this fight took place after Atlas and Rooney I think Bowe would have nailed his ass inside 6. Its amazing how having the right people around you can make you, and having the wrong people around you can destroy you.

Yes I agree bowe might have fought mike inside a bit too much but he was a great insdie fighter for a big man, I totally disagree about the intimidation though, Bowe mentioned mikes name many times while he was jail, "mikes great but ill whoop that little man" I think bowe and tyson would have absolutley got into a physical fight at the pres conference, punches would be thrown

Yes your right on ! at that time when Tyson was jailed Tyson had already diminished and had been beaten by Douglas.. But before that. I'm talking the early days of Tyson when Teddy Atlas was with him and Kevin Rooney . 2 different Tyson’s. this jailed Tyson I have losing to Bowe inside 6. The early Tyson wins on invincibility factor along Bowe fighting to much on the inside giving up his height. You are correct that Bowe fought very well on the inside for a tall fighter. However Boxing is mental as well as physical, and at that time early on in Tyson’s career Bowe perception of Tyson would have been very different then the jailed beaten fighter of the 90’s . Early on Tyson with that Superman Stigma, my have kept Bowe from taking the chances he would need to win. Thanks for the reply ! .

Lords good post, I agree, tyson could win hands down, but i beleive so could bowe its difficult to mix and match but if you put Bowe in there for example with tyson opponents,

spinks gets koed by bowe within 3
berbick gets koed by bowe 1-3 rounds
    holmes dont really know
ferguson bowe fought him much later so its unfair bowe stopped him in 2 tyson in six but not fair
    bowe vrs bruno 1-4 rounds.

you see why its an intriguing match up, sure holy bowe was a great fight but who knows if tyson would have beaten evander l;ike that or even at all? So its a good pick em fight in which if it came off and i am being toally honest as a prime for prime i would not bet on it

Great topic. ! Its fun to think back and analyze the possibilities of these type match ups. and try and take as much of the surrounding events at the time into account. .

Agreed, but also don't forget that Bowe grew up in Brownsville too and knew Tyson (by sight and reputation) - he was scared of him then !

I dont know that he was scared and certainly tyson never made any comments about bowe in a demeaning fashion, i think there was a healthy respect there

Wow! That was a good analysis Well supported and also the way I tend to see it. I really see Bowe trying to fight Mike on the inside and giving up that height. I then see Mike getting the better of that exchange.

Most of his opponents were scated of him back then but of all of the fighters at the time.........Bowe probably would have been the least scared other than Holyfield.

Yeah Evander had his stinger out during that time period looking forward to a war with Mike . The look on Holyfield’s face when Douglas dropped Tyson. man was he pissed. who thought it would be some 8 years before the 2 would finally face off.

I doubt Bowe would beat Tyson in 1-2 rounds....Tyson has a good chin even now (he just has no desire to get off the canvas).

There are a lot of people who could beat a prime Tyson...when you look back on his career he fought a bunch of bums. Sure Tyson was a great boxer but he's no where near the best...not even in the top ten.

iS THIS THE SAME RIDDICK BOWE WHO GOT HIS 8ST SISTER ARRESTED FOR GIVING HIM A BLACK EYE, THEN AGAIN IF SHE'S ANYTHING LIKE MY 8ST SISTERS... . BUT SERIOUSLY BOWE WAS GOOD BUT NOT GOOD ENOUGH TO BEAT A YOUNG TYSON, HE SIMPLY NEVER HAD THE SAME AGGRESSION AND HEART AS TYSON. REMEMBER TYSON WAS PROBERLY THE MOST HUNGRY HEAVYWEIGHT SINCE THE GREAT ROCKY MARCIANIO.

Would you have said that if you were asked straight after the Spinks fight?

The Bowe that beat Evander for the belt would have Ko'd a prime mike in the mid to late rounds...after evander Id give it to Mike with a late round TKO...
