do you think boxers should fight more than 1 or 2 times a year i think they should fight at least 4 times a year.

I think three times is enough if you are facing solid legit competition. If you are a young fighter who is taking the sport by storm with maybe 3 or 4 fights under your belt they usually fight 5 or 6 times a year against journeymen just to pad their records. Oscar De La Hoya fought 5 times in 1999 which was impressive, with Quartey, and Trinidad being major fights.

This is a very tough sport, and if you are at the pinnacle, you want to be fighting for very good money. Fights like this perhaps only come a round once or twice a year...

But certainly on the way up, whilst learning your trade, there is no reason why a fighter should not be fighting at least once a month, providing he is injury free.

Agreed. Anything can & will happen...so I suppose it depends on the man behind the gloves.

I do have a boatload of respect for fighters like Abraham & Sturm (to name a few) that fight 3-4 times a year...but for those that don't...you can understand why.

that's the standard....some fighters are fighting every 3-4 weeks....to get the rep going and respect.....once they get the bigger fights you have to prepare more for the fighters hence the longer time between fights....and it gets harder to find the bigger fights....
It feels good to be back home.

I don't think that fighters should have to fight more times a year, but I would like to see more fights televised....

I think a fighter, even of "worldchamp" level, should fight at least two times a year,
three times would be ideal and four times is probably too much
It depends on the style of the boxer...,does he like ring-wars like Arturo Gatti
or does he know how to condition his strength and how to fight defensively like
Bernard Hopkins. You wouldn't have seen Hopkins at 41 in the ring if he had fought
like Gatti and Gatti would look a lot fresher if he would have fought like Hopkins...
So it depends on the style, but also on the age of the fighter, like said above a young fighter
starting his career should do something like twelve fights a year, whereas fighters like
James Toney are forgiven to fight two times a year at best.
The last fight in which the boxer was is also importent,if it was tough one give the boxer
a break(on high level I would say six to nine month)...,was it an easy victory no reason
to wait more than five month(four would be better).
What I don't like is,when world champions don't fight at all and block the title this way...
I thought it was okay, that Vitali got his title taken away,if he had recovered from his injuries
he should have gotten a title match to recapture it and that would have been that...

Exactly...,if you are the champ and fight two times a year, your opponents better are some big names...,
    everyone else is crap...
Example: After 16 month not fighting, WBA Light Heavyweight Titleholder Fabrice Tiozzo steps
back in the ring to defend his title against Paul Murdoch, who already had a chance
at the title in his last fight against Zsolt Erdei...
    Fight is scheduled for 2006-07-15

Just another crappy defense against a bum...,this really sucks... :P
