Default Pay Per View numbers for Tarver-Hopkins(Is it good??)

    http://www.doghouseboxing.com/Chee/Chee_0616d06.htm

According to published reports, Home Box Office (HBO) has released it's pay-per-view numbers for its June 10 Bernard Hopkins-Antonio Tarver Bout.

The bout drew 330,000 PPV buys.

Acording to HBO senior vice president of sports operations Mark Taffet the fight has earned $16.5 million in PPV revenues.

HBO has had five PPV this year totalling more than $112 million in PPV revenue.

I was wondering if someone could put that into perspective for me please? Is that a high amount and how does it compare to Cotto's fight?

Well first of all, it would guarenteed have beaten out Cottos fight by a wide margin in terms of PPV buys, who the hell was going to pay 50 bucks to see Maligini who isn't a passionate boxing fan.. I can't really say how 330,000 is in terms of on average, but I know DLH vs Mayorga was almost a million buys, so that's a little perspective, it didn't do extremely well.. But like 5 of the top 10 PPV buys ever have been DLH fights, so maybe it did do just as well as they expected, I dunno,.

I think the list I saw was nonheavyweights. Trinidad-De La Hoya is at the top I think.

No sir, ODLH - Mayorga almost did 900,000 buys. Judah PBF did 360,000. For PPV, it was good enough. Remember RJJ never did big on PPV but he was consistent pulling 200-300 K each fight.

Damn I was way off. I just checked, the highest # of buys was Holyfield - Tyson II with 2 million buys, but the highest revenue was Tyson - Lewis with 1.8 million buys. Trinidad - De La Hoya was the highest ranking nonheavyweight fight.

    For the sake of perspective:
WWE usualy does around 300K buys, and One million buys is held as a great sucess.(Which they expect for there big pay per views)

But for a boxing non heavyweight fight, I think 300K is a big number. They probably released the number as a way of bragging about their sucess.

    * Biggest non-heavyweight PPV event: Trinidad-De La Hoya in 1999 produced 1.4 million buys and $71 million.

    * Most PPV buys: 1.99 million for Evander Holyfield-Mike Tyson II in 1997 (producing $99 million).

    * Highest PPV revenue: $103 million for Lennox Lewis-Tyson in 2002 (on 1.8 million buys).

I'm pretty sure Holyfield-Tyson II also netted Evander the highest guarantee in Sports history, $34 million if I'm not mistaken. Tyson got $29 mil.
